And it's that the people who go to nerd conventions, whether PAX or SDCC or Blizzcon or whatever, are typically not actually dedicated fans of the subject material.

Judging by the people I personally know who go to blizzcon, few of them actually play any blizzard games to what I'd call a dedicated level. Lots of WoW-dabblers and people who stopped playing Overwatch a month after launch but still share the fan-art on twitter. Almost universally the main reason I hear for going to conventions, especially out-of-town conventions, is that they are essentially a big party. People go to take pictures for their instagram and get wasted at afterparties. Some of them even feel that this is, for whatever reason, the only environment they are capable of doing those things.

The only exception to this I've experienced was going to The International 2015, but that's obviously like 10% convention and 90% tournament so it doesn't really count.

if your compulsion to this thread is to say something along the lines of "this is anecdotal so it's actually 100% wrong and the opposite is the truth" i want you to pretend i copypasted your signup date/karma/etc in response and inexplicably left it at that

It's probably going to be cancelled. No way Blizz risks the HK thing bleeding into it.

all brought down cause of one hong kong protester

all they had to do was not be anti human rights. and they couldn't do that. they love the chinese money too much

i said not hong kong related
