My boyfriend got a few teeth pulled today and isn't feeling too good. I have to go to work today, but I really don't want to leave him on his own. He's in pain, weak, bleeding, and needs someone to prepare special meals for him until he's feeling better. As an added detail, tomorrow is my last day at my current job before I start my new job so I don't have to worry about repercussions down the line. At the same time, I feel guilty when I call off because people rely on me, even if it is just a cashier job. So CE, what should I do?

You both make good points. I guess I'm just worried since he's never had teeth pulled before and this might trigger an anxiety attack for him. Also, the antibiotic they put him on is rough and when I took it for a different infection a few years ago, I had a very bad reaction to it that put me back in the hospital. I just don't want to take any chances, never again.

Like, he doesn't need anyone to stay at home with him unless something odd/different with the surgery, but... not like going to work is going to matter ultimately and you've got a great excuse to get out of it.

Here's your pills (if on any, no rest, and there's a glass of water by the bed.

On the other hand you're quitting the job already and TO ME it seems shitty to call off on your next to last day... but fuck it. It isn't like you're some lawyer that has filing deadlines or anything like that. Take off and enjoy your time. They will get over it.

If it's your last day, and missing the one day won't cause any financial issues, then you might as well give him the support. Even if he doesn't NEED it, it's a nice sentiment.

I'm also a little paranoid to leave someone I love alone while I think I can help them. I don't want anything bad to happen when I had the option to be there. I don't think I could go on if something bad happened while I was doing fuck all at work.

I mean it sounds like you're staying regardless but personally I'd tell my wife to just go to work. Ain't major surgery.

I had emergency surgery to pull a tooth several weeks ago. Recovery sucked, no doubt about it, and I would certainly have appreciated having my wife at home to help take care of me (she was out of town visiting family and could not get back for a couple days).

But I got through it. Unless he has additional dietary restrictions, "special meals" mostly means things like applesauce, gelatin, pudding, maybe spme broth later tonight but DEFINITELY not right away: the name of the game is really soft stuff without any crumbs or other debris. The dentist will have provided further instructions. Make no mistake, he is in pain, weak, and bleeding, and your comfort would doubtless be much appreciated. I can empathize with his situation, having been in it recently. But you are not required to set yourself on fire to keep him warm, so make sure you aren't doing that.

My advice: go into work, tell them there has been something of an emergency, and ask if you can get your affairs in order with them quickly and go home right away. This lets you separate from them cleanly, while still getting much if not most of the day with him.

Yeah I definitely needed the help I couldnt drive on my own and I just had stitches put into my knee
