So I talk sometimes about society forgetting the difference between bullying and unpopularity. Usually when I do that, it's in the context of incels thinking they're being bullied just because nobody wants to be around their creepy bull****. But there's another side to the same problem: people, both kids and adults, who see someone being bullied and mistake it for just part of relatively innocent social dynamics.

Why was this poor kid's mother the only one who had his back? Probably because of this same effect. She believed him, but the other adults in the room thought this was all innocent horseplay, or maybe just part of some more legitimate ostracism. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Maybe this kid was legit unpopular -I don't know- but even if he was, he was treated in ways no one deserves to be. And it ended in his death.

That's the lesson to take from this. If you don't want to be around someone, don't be around someone. No one is entitled to popularity. But there are things no one deserves. Don't be a bystander to them.

I know people hate on 13 reasons why and all that shit but if there's a message in that show other than that of depression, bullying, and sexual assault, it's that school's are fucking bad at dealing with this stuff. It's ridiculous.

That's why I say if you are continually bullied by the same person catch them off guard and knock some of their teeth out. Don't care what the school says, they ain't going to protect you when you're bullied or protect you if some psycho goes in the school with a gun.

Because the "bullies" parents pull the "not my kid!" shit or just genuinely dont give a fuck.

Then the school feels that every kid deserves a chance and they are all equals. Which is fucking false.

And they wont even allow you to defend yourself because of the fear of lawsuits to the city.

That's where the zero tolerance nonsense comes from.

Administrators and teachers aren't allowed to intervene physically or verbally by threat of retaliation by parents.

Its totally fucked up and everyone loses because individuals are afraid to put their foot down.

My school had a bully who was 6'5" and 300 pounds at the age of 15 who would regularly put kids in the emergency room. Administration was desperate to sweep it under the rug because he played football.

Schools don't care about bullying until it results in a death count. Then it's crocodile tears by the adults in charge.

The most they do is punish both the bully and their victim because that's quicker than investigating each situation. Of course only the victim is truly punished because a lot of bullies don't care if they get suspended. As opposed to the person that doesn't want their education interrupted.

Fucked that this sort of thing happened, hope the assholes get life.

The school doesnt care and the cops just show up after someones literally murdered. No one cares. Hell, even back when i was in high school i was bullied. I was fortunate enough to only really be bullied by one dude of similar size so i got into a fight with him but left for an alternative school after the incident. No one seemed to care at the school althroughout the incident.

This was over 13 years ago and these stories show how little anyone cares even now.

I have a daughter and im pulling her from any school shes severely getting bullied from.

Was never bothered by that person again. That was the most important lesson I learned in school.

...But if you're not strong enough to fight your bully, that's a shit situation to be in.

Yup, been there too.

The aforementioned bully was lifting my friend off his feet and strangling him against the wall. He was passing out and turning purple so I shattered a baseball bat over his head with an adrenaline fueled swing. Of course I was suspended but he stopped bothering us.

After i fought my bully and beat him fairly i did get the idea he might strike back with a weapon/gun/friends next time so it was more reason to leave afterwards.

public schools suck hard when it comes to handling bullying.

you have those who just don't do anything period, or you'll have those shitty Zero Tolerance policies that punish everybody regardless of involvement.
