I went from a security supervisor in a downtown office building to in-house security for a grocery store. Usually that sort of shit gets you minimum wage but this grocery chain decided to up the price and the standards. We arrest shoplifters and shit.

The only problem is that aside from the very rare arrest (you have to actually see them steal something and then they have to leave the store with it to make a proper arrest), the vast majority of the day is standing around waiting for time to go by. At my old job I would watch movies to pass the slow hours but here I cant even pull out my phone.

Also 6 years of being virtually glued to a desk for 12 hours every night means my feet are in constant agony since I cant sit down on the job.

Anyone have any advice to get through boring and painful jobs like this?

I guess its considered a citizens arrest maybe? I dunno all I was told was to use them on bad guys. My old job was like that too, everyone wore handcuffs and if you messed with us wed use them. We had a little jail cell in our break room lol.

Yes it is, the police are hiring academy recruits all the time in my area. Are you fat or something?

Pay some bum to come start shit in the store so you can detain them. Do this a couple of times and you'll be promoted in no time to a desk supervisor!

Give it about 2 weeks to a month. Your feet will adjust. My first job, my feet were killing me within 4 hours. After that first month, they adjusted.

Now, I can be on my feet for 12 to 16 hours, no issue with them. It's my back that gets me. Be warned, though, even when your feet do adjust..after you sit down for a half hour or more, its gonna hurt like hell standing back up for a few minutes.

Yes it is, the police are hiring academy recruits all the time in my area. Are you fat or something?

Standards vary from area to area. Some places are comfortable with donut munchers but the standards are crazy high in my city.
