I actually didn't end up thinking much of Super Metroid because I didn't play it until after Zero Mission (yeah, I know.) The game feels so much stiffer than the GBA titles that the overall feel was super underwhelming, even if the map was good.

Do you guys ever feel like it adjusts as you play? No matter what game with jumping/ platforming aspects I play it takes a few days before it 'feels' smooth and fluid?

Celeste is a recent example I hated hoe it felt for the first few hours. By the end it felt beautiful and tight in controls

I feel the same way. Although I think part of it is because I've never played it with an actual SNES controller.

Also I have no idea how this reserve tank functions. And at some point while using the charge beam I got blue stars around me and lost the ability to shoot and I have no idea what that was about

If you have charge and one other beam and power bombs selected and charge it does a special attack.

There is one for each type of beam.

I always thought the jumping was intentionally slow/floaty because of like gravity or something

Reserve tank is just an extra block of HP that kicks in if you would otherwise die. I think you refill it by picking up health while already at full health

Yes and no. As stated it gives you extra health when you run out but you can only fill a reserve tank when you have full health and the reserve tank is empty. You can also trigger reserve tanks manually as well but they kick in automatically if you reach no health.

It's definitely floaty and kinda slow but super tight controls. I don't like it nearly as much as zero mission's speed.
