I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone said it best when they mentioned it's too hard to satirize Trump because the satire has become reality, like who would think a sitting president would sharpie a map of a hurricane because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong and then go on to lie and say he doesn't know who drew on the map. That kind of thing just does not happen and watching live footage of said event is funnier than any sketch about the incident. Trump is a genius president who has been the only president to outplay those late night host and SNL and South Park, a genius.

SNL is incredibly hit or miss but Chris Redd is fucking hilarious. Anything he does ranges from good to phenomenal.

So they have that going for them.

Very true. But there are definite periods were particular eras were much better than others. I put that more on the writers' room than anything though.

I mean when it was Phil Hartman, Bob Odenkirk, Conan, Greg Daniels, Franken, Brown, Jack Handey, etc, etc... doing the writing? It was way more hit than miss with all of that talent. And then of course when Tina Fey was writing things 15 years later.

I certainly don't agree with it being trash like others say. It's no where near as bad as the mid-90s garbage (save for the greatest Weekend Update host ever). It's just more tepid I guess?

Then again I haven't seen a single episode of this new season, I'm basing this off the past recent seasons of this era.

I read an article from an old cast member when they said " everyone says the best snl era is whatever era they grew up watching". Every time I see an argument online it rings true.

Also SNL is at its best when it moves away from the trump stuff. The episodes all depend on the host as well
