i only work 8 hours (+ unpaid lunch). i hit the gym, went grocery shopping (quick trip next door for dinner), cooked dinner for tonight/lunch for tmrw, cleaned the dishes, showered, ate dinner + watched an hour long episode of tv...and now it's p much time for bed (gotta brush teeth + poop) since i need to be in bed by 11:30pm

and forget having a gf/wife/kids/pets

how do people who work more than 8 hours a day have time to live their life?!

I dont have much time. I leave for work at 5:30am and I get home at 6pm, cook some food and relax for maybe an hour or two and it gives me 2 hours "me time"

Two fucking hours

I had a job where I worked 12 hour shifts, but I only worked 7/14 days, which was pretty aweosme. The days I worked, I had zero energy when I got home though.

Wage slaves are depressing. My co worker tells me that after work she goes home to clean and is then too tired to do anything else. Absolutely miserable lifestyle.

I have worked 16 hours during emergencies, or when something requires "all hands on deck" but we are always paid extra and given days off for that sacrifice.

No one likes those 16 hour days not even the people above me but at no time is it treated as a "why are you complaining this is normal, you should be happy to be working all this time". I have seen and heard people raise hell over some of these 16 hour days with the big bosses due to how some of these "emergencies" were complete bull due to one idiot screwing up and fucking everyone else over for not following the security/safety protocols.

That is flat out stupidity topic creator, no one should be be a slave to their job, people need an actual life and only "work to live", don't "live to work".

(I am agreeing with you topic creator, incase the wording is taken the wrong way)

I had a shift at my job where I worked 8am to 9pm

I had a two hour unpaid break but I still did it. I got to choose how I used it to. I used 30 minutes of it during my morning shift (mainly because I REALLY needed to poop) and then I took an hour and a half off to go out to eat.

You just got to keep grinding man.

I do 10 hour days but I only work 4 days. I don't have a whole lot of time during the week but I get a whole extra day.

I can make up for it by staying up too late though, like I'm doing right now even though I have to be up at 5:30

I'd like to work 4 ten hour shifts a week. I had a job a couple years ago that required us to pick up overtime based on how many hours were leftover due to short staffing. When I finally left, we were at 24 hours mandatory overtime for the pay period.

This. I used to have a 12 hour shift on Sunday, now it's only 10 hours so I don't get overtime each week. But I only actually am doing stuff about 40% of my shift, the rest of the time I'm just a physical presence to respond to any issues or give the tenants a number to call if there's something wrong with the building itself. Security guard btw. So yeah, I basically get paid to watch YouTube for 5 hours each Sunday.

Everyone has the occasional long work day.

I think most people on this site who say they work 12 hours a day are just trolling though.

Or they like, have 2-3 hour breaks or something.

If it needs to done it's surprising how long people can work with no complaints.

Used to work 5:30am to 5:30 pm, 30 min lunch, (2) 15 min breaks and (1) 10 minute break. Got home around 6, ate, showered, in bed by 8pm, and woke up at 3:30am. Rotated Wed, Thu, Fri and Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat work weeks, it wasn't pleasant, but doable.

Every other weekend my schedule is

Friday 2pm - 11pm
Saturday 9am - 11pm
Sunday 9am - 9pm

and then I have to open on Monday so I have to be at work at 6am.

Yeah, it sucks. Literally have no time to do anything else.

i'm referring to 10/4. i don't think that extra day off is worth it, i'd probably just waste it lounging around. i'd rather get in my gym routine during the work week and enjoy a bit of tv

it helps to be passionate about the work

if the time is not concentrated productivity but a mandatory timeframe, then taking breaks helps

barring that, drugs (most commonly caffeine) and/or grit

Me too. I just like being able to sleep in an extra day, even if it means staying out longer on other days. But nah, I'm fine with my stable 7:45-4:30 state job. At least it has fantastic benefits.

I average 9-10 hour days, at least I get OT for it.

Just too much work to do, so everyone is putting in those hours. When you're busy doing stuff at least you lose track of time. If I had to stay at work doing nothing I would be too bored.
