Like "capture the neighboring castle" and the average timescale of the game is an hour.

Specifically without match-making games that boil down to rounds, like FIFA or something.

those games are fine as long as they don't have a timer. you can't enjoy such a short game with a timer breathing down your neck (this happens to minigame collections sometimes).

yeah i guess. as a kid, games like sonic seemed longer than 60 minutes because they were a challenge. ok.

You mean like multiplayer matches that last 60 minutes? There's an audience for that, but a lot of people won't have the time to dedicate to it.

The risk of having a multiplayer game go that long is that the victor might be obvious pretty early on. 45 minutes is a long time to play if you know you're going to lose.
