That's not bad. I wish we could have stayed in our last house a bit longer - made 20k selling after two years of ownership.

I want to do something similar but I don't know how it works exactly... like would you need to store all your stuff in a storage unit and rent out a hotel room for a few weeks or what?

Nah, we bought first, then sold.

Strictly speaking, buy/sell at the same time is the best way to go. If you do it right, you just need storage, as you go straight from one closing to another. But with a 10 month old, we figured it would be too much hassle to be worth it.
