It also seems like most people I know go through a ton of schooling and research experience only to work on bland shit like troubleshooting manufacturing systems or a payment tool for a website. Like wtf.

Depends on what kind of engineering you go into, really. It's commonly going to be a lot to learn either through schooling, boot camps, or self-study, but... I think network engineering is very fascinating.

Yeah network engineering is interesting. Then there's stuff like developing new technology for energy or robotics that are amazing.

Don't do electrical, mechanical, civil or structural. Most boring jobs ever with shit pay.

civil and structural, maybe, but I would completely disagree with electrical and mechanical

I was an EE for 5 years and most of my friends were ME. Well have to agree to disagree on that.

EE is fun if you actually get a design job.

Well yeah I guess to be fair all of the ME and EEs I work with have to do programming as the main part of their job

Circuit design is the most interesting to me. The system level stuff I don't find that enticing.

This seems to be the key.

I also know people who went to top schools for bioengineering and became business/finance analysts. What a crock.

damn, see i'm a mechanical engineer working on tooling, fixturing, prints, etc. and I find it so satisfying. most of my ee friends become more software engineer types and love their jobs as well. must really just depend on the job type

Yeah I read all that and dozed off lol. But I dont think engineering was for me at all. PM would have worked out better if I stayed in the field.

I don't know what that is, but it sounds more interesting than being a process engineer.

My friends are PMs. They say it isn't really engineering at that point.

Also, to do the really cool shit you need lots of experience and maybe post grad degrees.

Guess it wasn't for me. I like graphics and animations but that's too cool. Also prosthetics.
