24 y/o Carson King, the Iowa Man who went viral for his sign where he solicited beer money in the background of a ESPN College GameDay broadcast SOBBED UNCONTROLLABLY after a reporter outed his past tweets where he said RACIST things against black people that he wrote at 16 y/o!!

But despite those tweets being released, his donations SKYROCKETED to 1.7 million as he made a tearful apology and said he was a "dumb teen" when he posted that

The paper didn't release those tweets but Dailymail found them where In one of the tweets, he compared black mothers to GORILLAS and made light of black people killed in the HOLOCAUST

After he raised a million initially for that sign, he said he was going to donate the proceeds to sick children at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital which won the hearts of viewers as Anshauer-Busch vowed to match the money as well

Things took a turn for the worse for him after a reporter dug up tweets he posted as a teen against black people as he called it 'hurtful and embarrassing"

He said "8 years ago, when i was a sophomore in high school,i made some social media posts with my friends and quoted and referenced the Comedy Central show Tosh.0. one of those posts was brought to my attention by a member of the media today"

But there was instead backlash to the REPORTER for posting about it as he got DEATH THREATS for doing so as King is defending that reporter who works for the Des Moines Register as he appreciated the mediafor pointing that post out to him and said it was the right thing to do.

People however were not so kind and said they made the kid look racist by tearing him down by trying to play "gotcha".

Prolific New York Magazine Contributer Yashar Ali even got in on the criticism who said if he had been defiant about the 2 tweets or doubled down, he'd understand why it was posted but this was not newsworthy given the good work he's done

Do you think this man would still post things like that if he wasn't caught?

You truly believe the vast majority in your social circle have never said or done anything offensive? That's what the scrutiny line is referring to, not specifically racism.

Times change. I said a lot of things the affected group said weren't offensive that are considered so today. Don't get me started on how little cultural grace period we're getting on mis-gendering and new pronouns.

Thank go my youth wasn't on social media.

Yeah, I feel like those who think they've never said/done anything offensive simply forgot their idiot teen years and have the luxury of it not being on the internet forever to remind them. Saying something was "gay" wasn't exactly frowned upon in the 90s, many would be crucified today if social media was a thing back then.

There is no caveat. Saying no offense intended doesnt protect you from someone finding it offensive 10 years later. The likelihood that anyone hasnt said at least one thing questionable in their lives at some point is quite low...but that is because times were different then and we are different now.

Anyway, the guy apologized. Also love that the reporter that dug these up had his own racist and questionable tweets dug up. Cancel culture karma.

Indeed. Other than the fact that Carson King raised a million dollars for charity, the best part of the story for me was learning that the reporter, who outed King's tweets when King was a teenager, also had posted a whole bunch of racist tweets in the past. This is all fucking hilarious in a sad way.

For me, the best part was that, even after that, he still got another $800k in Venmo donations, precisely because of this.

Ive said heinous shit before when I was young just because it was edgy or funny, even though I never meant it. Thankfully people grow up

Some people don't and keep that mentality all of their life. What's worse is some people hide it and take advantage of their position(s) and platform and use it to enforce their beliefs and prejudices on others and / or endoctrinate children and pass it on to future generations. I can understand being a bit cautious when around some people in some situations, especially if they are strangers, but to resort to and revel in racism and discrimination is uncalled for and usually is a testament to how morally bankrupt someone is.

For people to make inhumane, ignorant blanket comments in a echo chamber about groups of people based on color / ethnicity and some exaggerated stereotypes, and think it's okay because youth are supposed to be "young and stupid" or "it's something to grow out of" despite being old enough to know better, shows that plenty of people ignore the severity of racism, how damning it can be for the victims, and are could careless about it as long as they aren't affected in some way. Anyway, It's okay for this guy to catch heat for what he did and this is another example that people should be more cautious who they support, considering a lot of "well intentioned" people end up being deceitful. The reporter got caught doing something unprofessional and deserved what he got as well though.

Not very, it's just pathetic racist assholes love to look down upon and make scapegoats out of groups of people just so they can feel better about themselves and their lot in life. Regardless if they are considered successful or not. Joke is on them though because this rock we're on is steadily falling apart due to the reckless abandon of our actions, and we've all got to expire someday. None of us are taking any of our cherished worldly possessions with us either. It's amazing how death is the one great equalizer.
