The 1990 film, the finest of the bunch, is just mediocre at best itself imo.

I can't say really. I never was a huge TMNT fan. Never read the comics. The 80's-90's animated series and the two movies are about all I watched as a kid. So my recollection of them probably isn't accurate. But they seemed awesome then.

Secret of the Ooze and 3 were... Ehhhhhh...
2007 is legit. Not 1990 good but def legit.
Turtles Forever was fun, at least, even if it wasn't a great film from any sort of critical perspective.

Turtles Forever was fun, at least, even if it wasn't a great film from any sort of critical perspective.
For me:

1990 Film - Mediocre. There's some entertainment value. I enjoyed it a lot more as a kid. Definitely the best of the TMNT films, that's for sure.

Secret of the Ooze - Pretty bad, but corny enough to still be somewhat entertaining.

TMNT 3 - Forgettable.

TMNT (2007) - Hated it. It was boring. Took itself way too seriously for a TMNT movie. The art design looked awkward. But I did appreciate a TMNT movie where Shredder isn't the main villain. And I legitimately liked the Raph kitchen fight scene with Black Betty playing in the background.

TMNT (2012) - Awful. Didn't take itself seriously enough. Pretty much everybody recognizes this movie as garbage. But I do like the apparel the turtles wear that compliment their style and personality.

TMNT Out of the Shadows - Still pretty awful but not quite as bad as the first movie. I will say, this is "the most TMNT" movie of all the live-action TMNT films. To the point where I could actually see it being good had it been worked on by people who actually gave a fuck.

I actually loved the tone. It was the best part. TMNT comics are all over the place in tone, while its adaptations are almost exclusively fun and light, so this was a very welcome addition to the adaptation library.

I have an issue where it's Leo's birthday and Donny gives him a sword that he can use with the nub from where he lost his hand, Leo isn't grateful at all, then the two of them and Mikey go fight the Shredder, who is the successor to the traditional Shredder (who is dead), who is, of course, Raphael.

Now see, that's what it looks like for a Ninja Turtles story to take itself too seriously.

I think the 2003 series hit the perfect balance between light-hearted/fun and dark/serious perfectly. It knew when to be upbeat and silly, letting the turtles do their thing, and it knew when to pull back and get serious when the situation calls for it.

Still my favorite iteration of TMNT to this day.

The 1990 OG is arguably one of the best comic book movies of all time. Shredder was an absolute badass and his defeat was handled perfectly. The turtles themselves are perfect. Their personalities are unique and charming. There is no CGI bullshit, just pure (unappreciated) stunts, puppetry and choreography using giant rubber suits lol. Casey Jones is fantastic. The only real knock I give the movie is that April is not that attractive. But it's a minor gripe.

This movie was way ahead of its time and is insanely underappreciated.

My only complaint with the film whatsoever is that Donatello is more or less exclusively comic relief. It's more or less the Leonardo and Raphael show, but Michelangelo at least still has two key scenes that give him development and help establish their regard for Splinter. Donny got nothing. Aside from a few jokes, his one contribution of any value to the film was setting up one of those two Mikey scenes, lol.

Speaking of Raphael, I remember watching the movie as a little kid and wondering why Raph wasn't being funny and just being mean.

Only knew the 1987 Turtles before then so I was unaware that was closer to the real Raphael lol.

Nah, SotO was my favorite as a kid, but Keano (I think that was his name?) is annoying, they ruined Shredder, and the characters and story mostly exist to set up jokes instead of the other way around. 2007 was a way better movie.

I suppose in a world without 1990, I would appreciate SotO more but as a sequel it was a letdown.
