I'd prefer subtitles but I get why a show meant for kids would not use them

this is just another example of hollywood assuming that americans can't handle shows where the characters aren't americans. they always have to adapt foreign stories and either set it in america (like netflix's death note) or change the story so the main character is american (original godzilla movie, when it was released in the US. or The Grudge remake with Sarah Michelle Gellar)

Tbh Id rank Zyuranger and MMPR season 1 pretty equally in quality. Where MMPR fails in plot, it makes up for in entertainment. (Seriously, Green With Evil was an epic compared to the disorganized mess that was Burais intro. Though Burais story was way better than Tommys)

Also, if they went for straight dubs, we would have never got amazing villains like Zedd or Ransik. >_>

I do love Sentai though. Dairanger was hella better than MMPR season 2. And GoBusters is better than Beast Morphers is currently, though the latter is still ok.

You can't adapt an American to American media without the director wanting to put their own spin on things much these days, so I doubt the show simply being Japanese had a lot to do with it. Maybe more complicatedly as the show can be rooted in Asian tropes, culture and jokes, on top of Japan not talking down to kids on their shows quite as much.

And with Zyuranger as the starting point, I'm sorry, the Teenagers with Attitude and their side cast were more memorable than the ancient warriors, and while bandora had better motivation, Rita's chewing of the scenery is just too entertaining.
