I've been meaning to cancel my membership with EoS because the one by my house is absolute garbage with broken equipment and the nice one I go to is much further and always packed. PF is only $22 per month + $49 annual fee for the one with a guest pass which would be less than I'm paying for now.

Do people only make fun of it because of it's casual nature or is the equipment shit too? PF is the only gym that cheap around here with a guest pass and unlimited access.

It depends on the location I hear, but I've been in three and they have only treadmills/bikes, dumbbells up to 50lbs, and smith machines. Nothing else.

If you're legitimately into body building as a hobby it's a bad gym.

If you're just trying to stay in shape, especially with a partner, it's well worth it.

I know plenty of cops and serious lifters that go to Planet Fitness. The issue comes from the dudes that are way too extra with the shit they do there.

Planet Fitness is fucking weird with the pizza parties and lunk alarm but.... Nobody is forcing anyone to eat pizza and nobody ever has to slam weights unless you're a cross lifter.

Mines doesn't have any barbell or Smith machine. Only free weights and cardio stuff.

Well mine has dumbells up to 80lbs and then there are also smith machines. It took a while to get used to them, but now I prefer a smith machine for benching over a regular bench press.

Based on their equipment, it sounds like a waste of money if you have access to any sort or free alternative at the office, apartment, etc.

It's a casual gym. Probably fine if you're just starting out, but anyone who lifts seriously should go elsewhere.

The Planet Fitness I go to has all these things and more. There's even a training circuit that has monkey bars and other shit.

I got the $99 for a year, so I don't have to pay any annual fees.

It varies wildly by location, but like most have said, its a serviceable beginner's gym.

Hmm I'll tour the one by my house sometime this week and see what's up. No bench or leg press might be a deal breaker.

There's a place called Anytime Fitness here which is one of those gyms you ring yourself in. It's $33 a month but I'm not sure their rules on guests.

I go to Anytime and, although I've never taken a guest, they claim they have a pretty lax policy. For some reason, three a month is in my head, but that could be from the 24 Hour Fitness where I used to live. I forgot my.fob once and the staff let me in no problem, so that augurs well for guest-friendliness. You need to bring your guests during the staffed hours; I've seen more than one place with a members and guest entrance separate. I'm not sure what prevention they have for bringing in guests outside of the staffed hours other than CCTV.

I like Anytime's flexibility and that you can use literally any branch in the world. The main one I go to doesn't have towels or soap, so that sucks if you forget to bring your own. Also, the equipment isn't totally the same between branches. They all probably have ropes, kettlebells, treadmills and benches. The ones I've been to have all had leg presses, but haven't all had, for instance, ergs or medicine balls.

Hmm good to know. I'd probably only go when there's staff there. I'm gonna clarify their guest policy with them. I do like the idea of those ring in gyms, seems more private.

I have a membership to PF and my local "real gym". Sometimes my local gym is too packed and I just need an alternative way to work out.

I actually prefer PF for something like back day since the Smith Machines are great for rows/trap exercises. Same with arms since I'm not curling 75 pound dumbbells anyway.

But yeah when it comes to chest or legs it has a pretty awful selection of machines or weights, even for beginners.

I was thinking this too. I used to do shaolin growing up and it was fun. Most of the schools around here though are very kiddy. I have to drive a far distance to get to a serious BJJ place.

It's a smart plan when you think about it. Keep the fatties fat to keep coming back. I myself go to pf, but I do not partake in the pizza parties. As an overall gym it covers my basic needs.

I'll give two different Planet Fitnesses a look through. If they have a bench and a leg press then I can manage. If not I'll have to look elsewhere. I cant say I care too much about their rules or culture shit, I'm there to work out and leave. I'm not very loud when I work out.

I'm guessing they dont have an indoor basketball court though. My current gym does but its always fucking packed and you have to borrow the ball from the gym.

Lake Mead and Buffalo. It used to he a Golds Gym and they pretty much kept the same equipment from when it was. Shit is falling apart. So I usually go to the one on Sahara but it is so busy a one hour work out can turn into 2 or 3 depending on the traffic.

I used to go to LVAC. I always felt like it was a hassle there too. I kinda just want a small gym with basic equipment.

It allows you to get the lifts in you need. But if you wanna be strong it's probably not the most ideal. I'd look for a gym that lets you hit squats, bench, and deadlifts.

Oh damn thats the one I go to lol. They have a small one by like Simmons and loose. But I like the sauna so i dont go there. I was pissed when that one had the sauna down forever

I never knew there were such basic Planet Fitness gyms. All the ones I've been too have a lot of machines and weights. They even have spa areas to get massages on tables and chairs. There's even a tanning bed and another machine that's supposed to tone your body while also giving you glowing skin.

I'm in north town a lot lol the Anytime I was looking at is on Craig and Rancho I think.

PF was fine for my needs.

Ended up finding a similarly priced gym in my area with a pool though so I just switched to that one.
