There was vegan bacon, vegan sausage and vegan cheese.

My overall impression is that vegan food is so much better than it used to be, but until the food scientists figure out how to accurately replicate the properties of fat and that savoury meat flavour it's just not going to catch on quite as strong as it could.

It was alright but...still not anywhere near as good. Not "exactly the same" as my vegan friend tried to suggest.

Yeah, it's honestly so much better now. Certainly not the same but good enough really, I find, in most cases.

Yeah, I have similar opinions about it. Some of those 'meat substitutes' are quite tasty and worth having regularly, but almost none of them come close to tasting like meat at this point.

I actually think cultured meat would be a great addition to the food market.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultured_meat

Although it would not be able to completely take over the entire meat industry, it could certainly significantly lower the need for lifestock, thus results in less slaughtering and lower harmful impacts on the climate.

Burgers and mince have already been produced by a few companies in various countries and shown to be edible, and to taste like 'the real thing'. It'll likely be a few more years before it's available in stores.

I had an Impossible Burger for the first time this past weekend and it was basically comparable to a fast food burger, but nowhere near what I'd expect from an actual burger. I certainly wouldn't trust the enjoyable quality of anything that was trying to be a copy of non-processed meat. Vegan food has merit and tastiness and should seek to shine on its own rather than emulate meat.

To its credit, though, when I tried it later, cold and leftover, it was more pliant and a little nicer than a true meat fast food burger would have been so far removed from the intended consumption time.

Bug protein and cultured meat would be fine additions to the food market to have as options.

Are you under the impression that most vegans were born and raised that way...?
