Pancrase, the first MMA company opened had their first show 26 years ago today. One of the founding members being Minoru Suzuki, who is still having a great career with New Japan Pro Wrestling

Well, I;m 41, and when I was 10 and I would fight with my friends (pre-Internet boredom resulted in excessive pre-teen violence). My friends claimed they new karate, kung-fu, ninjitsu, and pro-wrestling (this was also a time when we thought pro-wrestling was real). So we would engage in our own mixed martial arts brawls that looked eerily similar to modern MMA bouts; A few punches, maybe a kick, then 10 minutes of two people rolling around on the ground together.

Ive always figured Ali vs anoki was the first mma fight. I think its sort of commonly seen that way.
