Or should I say fake MJ. f-MJ? This movie is gonna be painful, she's so unlikable. Also lol at the gorgeous blonde being into Peter's annoying fat friend. What is this, nerd wish fulfillment?

She's MJ but not Mary Jane Watson. No need to call her fake MJ as shes not suppose to be that character. She is her own original character.

The romantic subplot is usually the weakest part in their movies, but in this movie in particular it makes the lead unlikable because the girl he's after is unlikable.

Why would the world turn on Spider-Man, the hero who helped undo the snap and pretty much a member of the Avengers because some video surfaced of him killing a bad guy. A video which was doctored and can be easily proven because Peter has all of Stark Tech at his disposal. I guess they finally read a Spider-Man comic and realized he's really underappreciated as a super hero and there is this dude called Jameson who hates his guts, so they shooed all that in the last 2 minutes of the movie. But all that doesn't matter, let's see how Sony write themselves out of the MCU.

If nothing else, this movie succeeds in being completely unpredictable (so far). I have no idea what direction it's going to go. Is Mysterio a good guy? Why is Jake Gyllenhaal so damn likable? Are those really elementals? Is it all a projection he's doing to be a hero? Should we take what he said at face value? Did they really consider this earth the 616 version?

Very curious to find out but I can't help agreeing with pete that it's ridiculous they're using this kid for what's going on when there's literally a hundred heroes in that cheesy endgame screenshot where they all pose for the final battle. It was one thing when the adult Avengers didn't use each other for their solo movies, but this?

Stark put all of his faith in him. Also they literally explain where the other Avengers are in like the first 30 minutes of the movie or something

Lol they should change EDITH to even in death, I still have disgruntled employees going after me!

I'm proud of myself, I figured it out just moments before the bar scene ended, when Peter was about to hand off the glasses to Jake.

Anyway movie was alright. I find it interesting that both mcu spiderman movies had that kinda villain, with like a whole crew working together (although the first movie they were a lot more of a team, this time I wonder why they continued to work with him when he literally pointed the drones at them; you're mad at Tony for whatever reason but fine with being almost shot and killed by this unstable dude? What?)

Most of us don't, but I watched the cartoon shows like Spectacular Spider-Man (still the best spiderman to date) so that's where I know the characters from. Also because I played Mysterioso's Menace on gba back in the day, that was a fun game. Good game.

And that's fine. Spectacular Spider-Man was a great series and more true to the source material than the Iron Boy movies will ever be.

Also that ending lol. Yeah that was a good tease for the next one and setting up how you can justify hating spiderman daily bugle style in the mcu world.

Second teaser was also good. First off it's still weird that the skrulls are being portrayed as the... good guys? (still not sure about that but we'll roll with it) but it was pretty funny of an idea for the shape shifter to be duped by shape shifting, that was some hilariously delicious irony.

I hope it bodes for a good future in the mcu because agents of shield's 4th season ending was almost exactly the same as this movie's teaser ending with fury/coulson staring out into space on some weird space station thing, and I ended up hating the 5th season's direction and everything it introduced (avengers already did time travel so that cat's out of the bag).

No he fucking hasn't. Spider-Man didn't begin with Ultimate Spider-Man.

Lee and Ditko had the character deal with the struggles of adolescence and financial issues

When Spider-Man first appeared in the early 1960s, teenagers in superhero comic books were usually relegated to the role of sidekick to the protagonist. The Spider-Man series broke ground by featuring Peter Parker, a high school student from Queens behind Spider-Man's secret identity and with whose "self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness" young readers could relate.[9] While Spider-Man had all the makings of a sidekick, unlike previous teen heroes such as Bucky and Robin, Spider-Man had no superhero mentor like Captain America and Batman; he thus had to learn for himself that "with great power there must also come great responsibility"a line included in a text box in the final panel of the first Spider-Man story but later retroactively attributed to his guardian, the late Uncle Ben.

Over the years, the Peter Parker character developed from a shy, nerdy New York City high school student to troubled but outgoing college student, to married high school teacher to, in the late 2000s, a single freelance photographer

That version seems to have completely taken over the spiderman mythos.

They can't have spiderman be a kid forever, but I'm glad they got someone who actually looks like a kid this time instead of a near 30 year old last time. Although 16 is still way too young for spiderman, I would have preferred him being at least a senior in high school for the first movie, and then going through college in the second (they could still do the europe trip in college, and it would make more sense too). If only because the actors age. It's okay now but with live action you'll always have this issue.

The only thing I'd be interested in from the ultimate universe (as I'm told) is eddie brock being childhood friends with peter and that their parents worked together, which added emotional weight in spectacular spiderman.

Although I wonder if it's that scientist goon who did that, and if so why, the dude threatening you is dead. I guess bad guys are bad always even after the end.
