I think 80k is good money. I make more than that

I also think that San Francisco is a shithole (well I guess shithill) and I'm wondering why TC would mention that. How many homeless people flashed their junk at you on the way to work tc

This. The general populace outside of the state seems to think the entire city is the tenderloin.

All depends on your situation. Raising a family of 4 on a single income of $80k in a place like San Fran? Good luck.

Single with no kids in a place like Des Moines? Live like a king

I don't mention how much I make because I don't believe in flaunting money, but $80k/year is an excellent income for most situations.

I live in the midwest where everything is dirt cheap, so I honestly don't need the amount of money I make. I also dress modestly, with clothes I buy at a discount store.

Just because you make a lot doesn't mean you have to show it off.

Before I went to medical school, I made $30k/year working at my local health department. At least where I live, that was enough to pay for a mortgage, utilities, groceries and occasionally eating out.

I managed to pay off 100% of my $140k student loans in one year living just like I lived back then. It's not hard if you have a low cost of living.

Now I've just shifted all that money that was going to student loans into retirement and investments instead.

I kinda have to laugh when people give me shit for buying a new phone every year or two.

Considering that's basically the only thing I buy that's in any way expensive, I consider it my guilty pleasure habit.

Big difference between showing off and living comfortably. Idk why people always think the difference between a $50 outfit and a $500 outfit is only the name brand. It often costs more because of better materials and construction. Do some people only buy it for the brand? Of course. But that doesn't mean it's not more luxurious, comfortable and probably looks better. So if you can afford it, why not upgrade from $50 cotton hanes underwear to $500 cashmere undies?

$80k is fine in NYC as well as long as you're not trying to live in Manhattan.

It's actually worse in the surrounding areas of the city like in Nassau, Westchester and Central NJ. They have the highest property taxes in the entire fucking country.

Even then, $80k is only really bad in cities in Cali.

It certainly makes it tough. Our next house will cost somewhere between 600-900k and that's not a mansion.
Yeah ours was about $750k. And we went away from the city so it cost less. We just hit 20% equity though and refinanced to get rid of our PMI payments so that will help with our mortgage payments considerably.

I live great as a single man. My distant relative is renting his condo to me and my brother and he is ONLY charging us 500 a month plus utilities. I save so much money. I'm waiting to get married and use all this money I saved up to buy a house.
