Thought about a final fantasy game or one of the GTA titles but I don't have time to beat those and I don't know if I'll go back to them.

Tried Elder Scrolls Blades and was bored after the first combat encounter.

Older Kairosoft games, but you have to buy them outright and they follow one of three templates (sports team management, building developer/manager or town/kingdom developer/manager). They didn't require a connection either.
They have a pirate one I'm checking out now but I'm wary, it was free so I don't know if it has MTx/requires a connection

Gacha are some sort of Japanese games were you gamble. Like a FF version would be: unlock Tifa at 4% chance per spin of a whele and you get premium currency or something that you spend to spin it.

Not exactly. It's not like say "buy 100 resources or wait 12 hours". It's more like "get Tifa from FFVII at a 5% chance of a wheel spin". Some are basically "buy premium and gamble or don't progress" but a lot aren't like that so they're still good.

Idle Apocalypse is pretty well designed but there are too many resources / production chains to try to remember given the UI and it doesn't help that some icons look similar. Also I am behind because I didn't realize you could build down, too.

Goosebumps plays exactly like Simpsons Tapped Out but with Goosebumps stories and characters. Which is actually kinda cool, they have the insect carnivore librarian and the talking Dummy and everything. But it's one of those semi-idle town builders and it would probably help if I had FB and friends who played it. Also interface is annoying if you're trying to make a cool looking town since it's hard to select the right feature/character/building sometimes.

Adventure Communist is actually really fun. I liked Adventure Capitalist and thought this would be more of the same, but somehow they did a new formula. Now you're trying to build up so you can get more of the basic units to produce more. And you have to worry about increasing how many workers you can get per second and using research to upgrade your buffs. I really dig it and spent way too much time today getting everything set up.

It definitely hits a wall after a while. Especially since there's a cap on how many extra resources you can get from souls.

And it's one of those idle games with an obnoxious 8 hour limit on how long it will work while idle... which kinda defeats the purpose.

Meanwhile, Adventure Communist is a decent take on the idle genre. Rather than limit your gains by increasing the price of every upgrade, you're regulated by a meta resource called comrades. Higher rank stuff doesn't just produce more resources; it gives you more of the object from the tier below, so you're always gaining. And it doesn't have an 8 hour limit for offline allocations.

Agreed, but I think the Google Play Store removed it for some stupid reason. I still have it on my phone, so I hope it doesn't do a cleanup at one point and removes it.
