I should say "right wing comedy isn't funny, thoughful, wholesome or humorous"

Right wing comedy does exist. It just isn't the industry darling type of comedy. One example of right wing would be Nick Di Paolo. Funny guy but he's a bit off the rails with politics especially on his podcast. He was great on Tough Crowd With Colin Quinn in the early 2000's.

Hes a national treasure and the kind of guy that if he never mentioned politics would be a top ten comedian.

Gillis spitting fire.

He really is a funny dude and he will land on his feet just fine. All the comedians who matter are behind him. I first heard him maybe a year ago and he has been on a big rise since he hit the New York comedy and podcast scene.

Yeah or at least try and hit both sides. One sided gets old.

Its really hard to do political comedy that isnt hack or immediately gets stale. Anytime someone starts talking about left wing or right wing comedy the first thing I think is that person isnt a comedy fan.

I don't listen to his podcast but he's a must listen when he's on The Bonfire, Legion of Skanks, Real Ass Podcast, Robert Kelly, etc.

One of the pet peeves of this whole situation is that the people complaining are hardly comedy fans. If you watch SNL regularly, I don't want to know you. That's some beginner level horse****. I'm not saying that everything he says is gold, but you'd give him more of a benefit of the doubt if you knew what he was about the rest of the time.

Stupidest decision Comedy Central ever made was cancelling that show.

Bunch of hilarious morons try and give their opinions on subjects they know shit about until they turn to Giraldo to explain it to them.

You and I listen to the same pods. Ive never actually listened to him on the secret pod, but I do listen to everything on Gas Digital. Youre probably the only person in this topic who understands the context of my defense of Shane. Everyone else sees it as some left wing vs. right wing bullshit, and not just a fan of good comedy.

Thanks man.

Yeah it's incredible. I only know it through Youtube! The regulars on there were the best because they would kill each other with great lines. But it's amazing that a lot of the headliners and stars from this generation made appearances on there. Kevin Hart, Jim Norton, Di Paolo, Burr, Louis CK, Sarah Silverman, Giraldo (RIP), Patrice O'Neal (RIP), etc.

Even though it was a TV show, you can argue that show is the birth of the comedy podcast. It's either that show or the Opie & Anthony radio program. Comedians ribbing each other and shooting the s*** about current events, telling stories etc.

It was amazing live. It's actually a really hit or miss show to be honest. If they only had one NYC comedian/friend of the show, it usually sucked. It was usually Norton that was left as the odd person out and he and Colin couldn't carry three-dead weights by themselves.

Yeah when the panel is all non-regulars it isn't the same. When you have at least 3 regulars out of the group of Norton, Vos, Patrice, Giraldo, Di Paolo, Keith Robinson, it's usually hilarious. I remember guys like Kevin Hart, Bill Burr, Louis CK, Rogan, Bobby Kelly being good too. The one where Giraldo owns the hell out of Denis Leary is must watch stuff.

The funniest part of all this, as someone who follows the comedy scene, is that they could have cherry picked way more offensive stuff from Shane to attack him for. What they got him for was fairly mild. It really calls to question what, if anything, does as due diligence for their new hires.

Giraldo killing Leary was amazing. I remember watching that as it aired and having to look away because of how hard he came at Leary. It was a sight to behold.

Really Giraldo was the best at all of that. Usually they defer to him for actual knowledge because they know that couldn't keep up with a lawyer. Patrice and sometimes Norton were the only two that could made coherent arguments.

And if you love all of those guys, you need to see the Roast of Patrice O'Neal on YouTube. For anyone that hasn't seen it, Ben Bailey (yes from Cash Cab) absolutely murders everyone with no remorse. Poor Keith Robinson.

I don't remember who said it but it might have been Luis J Gomez who had a theory that Shane was just used as a prop to drum up media buzz for their new Asian hire and the upcoming SNL season. Which is an interesting theory because the idea that NBC wouldn't have vetted one of their new members does not sit well with me either. A billion dollar company and you didn't know anything? Maybe they did and they filtered the info to that hack writer that found the old clips, to make it look like a hack blogger found it? Who knows.

As mentioned, he has said worse stuff. But it's so over the top that I've never taken it as more than a joke. God forbid the haters actually take the time to listen to Legion of Skanks. Their minds would explode with the things said on there. A podcast, by the way, which has diverse guests including SNL member Michael Che.

He takes a contrarian angle just to shock and antagonize people. That's his schtick. He's a dope who like college football and beer. There's nothing deep about him. He's not political.

(This message obviously isn't for you Clutch & Kastrada. It's for people who might be lingering here.)

I've been a student of Patrice over the years and I've yet to watch that or his last special. There's something weird about running out of material to listen to by a dead guy. It's depressing. He would have been huge if he didn't pass away. That Sheen Roast put him on the map.

I will check them out eventually.
