We need to do something now. We still have time but it is running out desperately. Drastic measures are needed.

We need to do something now.

Demand the US and Europe gut their economies, while letting China and India do whatever they want.
That'll surely work, right?

Not even. There is nothing stopping us from raising a few trillion dollars and putting millions of Americans, Canada and Central/South America included, to work installing solar panels and wind farms and building more nuclear.

And planting trees.

We could massively change the course of history with just a couple of years of World War mobilization.

And without the two biggest polluters on board it wouldn't matter

About that....
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-49567197

At scale, wind and solar power may actually do more damage to the environment than traditional methods because a synthetic gas required to manage them is 23,000% more damaging than CO2 and lingers for a thousand years. Right now the impact is relatively small because the number of solar and wind farms is relatively small, but we might be completely fucking ourselves over if we go all in on these technologies without better understanding the environmental impact.

Yes it would. We could plant enough trees worldwide with just America, Europe, Canada, and South America, to become carbon neutral and then carbon negative in a handful of years.

Your own article had the answer. Did you read it?

"Sitting in the North Sea some 43km from the Suffolk coast, Scottish Power Renewables has installed one of world's biggest wind farms where the turbines will be free of SF6 gas.
East Anglia One will see 102 of these towering generators erected, with the capacity to produce up to 714MW (megawatts) of power by 2020, enough to supply half a million homes"

Then, why can't those half million homes pay for it, without demanding everyone else does as well?

Don't you think that it is ineffective and unreasonable to expect that to happen without federal-scale spending?

That will only be able to power coastal cities. The power drop-off means that anything inland won't be able to take advantage of it. That helps but it doesn't fix the problem.

The technology to build without the toxic gas exists and is improving, which was the point.

There is no reason why investment can't take care of finding better ways to make those tools for inland use. What is important is the urgency and the desperate need for us to leverage our wealth as a nation for the sake of the entire planet.

Like we did in WW2. Gotta do it again, this time for something that really will kill us all without fail if we don't do something.

7C warming is a lot. And that's just the point at which 90% or more of the permafrost has melted and we're stuck in a runaway feedback loop of warming.

You can donate like $100 to the National Forest Foundation and they'll plant one tree per dollar. That's probably enough to sequester your carbon footprint for life!

It was a joke playing off the word "Model", not a condemnation of a company.
