In the context of the dream, controversy had developed over the internet about Samus wearing her hair long; how it was unfitting for a warrior to worry about vanity and how it could be easily grabbed in a fight.

There was a forthcoming Metroid game which would feature the new short-haired look, but it debuted in a new Smash Bros. game. The Smash Bros. trailer showed Samus confronting Pikachu, Megaman watching from the background, as Tommy Vercetti sneaked up behind her and slashed her ponytail off with a machete. Afterward, Samus chased Vercetti down an alleyway until he collided with a character I didn't recognize and the two fused together into a new character (a character merging glitch from the previous game made into the new gimmick for this game).

I remember making a mental complaint about how silly it was that Samus had to have her hair cut short when Princess Peach was allowed to fight sporting both long hair and a long pink dress. It seemed like they were picking on her because a "tough" character wasn't allowed to look pretty. I'm really glad it was just a dream. Nintendo can cut Zelda's hair short if they want to. That's fine. But leave Samus alone.

her hair shortens magically anime transformation style when she puts the helmet on, then reverts when she takes it off. Also, isn't the point is that she can still look feminine and sexy and still preform most admire-ably despite long hair and heels being a sort of handicap?

Kinda like superheroes who have eyeliner under their masks which magically disappears when they take the mask off.

Isn't her hair short in Other M though?

If I remember correctly, it was just the US box art which showed her hair short.
