After working six consecutive days last week, and finding out this week that I was going to have to work this Sunday, I gave my notice. My boss informed me that I'd agreed weeks ago to cover weekend shifts to accommodate vacations.
My boss is pretty chill. It's likely she'll never mention this conversation to anyone. And things are really backed up now. Like, they honestly kinda need me. But once this storm is weathered, it's possible that I might see a shift from the sailor who was necessary in keeping the ship afloat to the whiny employee who threatened to quit when he didn't get his way. I don't like being at someone's mercy even if I know nothing will come of it. I'll stick around for a few months, but then I'm quitting for real. I'm not concerned with the threat of termination. I know that won't happen. And any attempt at demotion will result in my departure. But the damage may be done as far as a recommendation is concerned.
