I thought it was good. Chapter 1 was better though. The best scary scene was probably the one that trailers already spoiled, honestly. The rest were just...basic jumpscare stuff. The best overall scene in the movie though was the part where Bev and New Kid (forgot his actual name) got separated and were drowning in mud/blood, and tried to reach each other. The visuals and how powerful the scene was (right down to the love confession) was great...and the small Shining reference there was funny too.

Which actually segues into a bit of an issue I had with the rest of the movie...it felt too much like a comedy at parts. I felt they should've done a bit more with separating the scary parts with the funny parts. Instead they mesh the two tones together and I felt it...kinda did more harm than good. I laughed at those parts, but still. I remember Chapter 1 being pretty funny at times but didn't mesh them together to ruin the mood.

And the way It was defeated was most likely taken from the book but I thought it was kinda lame. "Let's make it think it's small so we can kill it!" ....What? I can't believe that worked against an eldritch abomination.

Yeah I think they definitely went for a popcorn blockbuster horror sort of vibe instead of trying to make the movie scary or horrifying. Overall it's fine but it does make the scenes like the intro to Chapter 2 not really fit well.

It wasn't actually. They simplified it a lot. It was a lot more cosmic and weird in the book.

Not just that, but the ritual of chud in the movie completely contradicts the entire theme of the adult section of the book.

yea if they did the novel's ending in the movie, it would have looked really weird and psychedelic.

NOVEL ENDING SPOILERS

it's been several years but I remember something about their minds going into space and looking at the multiverse. and meeting this other God Being called The Turtle which helps them in the final battle in some way. It honestly would have been kinda cool but I guess I can see why they didn't want to do it. your average movie goer just wants something more easy to understand and basic.

It's even weirder than that.

the turtle is the antithesis/adversary of it, but dies before it can help them. Bill sees its corpse, having suffocated on a new galaxy it puked up. The Ritual of Chud goes by the idea that IT must abide by laws of their world, and they bite down on each others tongue and make each other laugh to defeat it the first time, but it gets away so they don't kill it.

Book ending is not for everyone, much as I love it.

I don't actually know that's true. But the crappt writer chapter 2 got is no Kubrick or King regardless.
