Free tuition + living allowance + book stipend, has something valuable on his resume to tout for future job seeking + benefits being a veteran, and you can "enjoy your childhood" before you ship out at 17/18 whatever it is. Also, apparently Vipa isn't aware that if the kid is poor enough, and would be the first child to go to college (or if he's not, has somehow achieves Independent status on his taxes), he can sign up for the Pell Grant that pays for basically almost all of his tuition. And his the kid is black, he can just apply for a black-centric scholarship. So he doesn't actually have to join the military to get free college by virtue of his race/class!
