My friend claims its a friendly F2P game and that he was able to reach challenger rank in the first month. Though I'm reading on the reddit forum on how it's the opposite of what my friend said.

Reroll for a meta deck and you can cheese your way to champions. It's fun but the lack of variety killed it for me. There's a lot of options but most of them are bad.

the way I see card games like this, shadowverse, duel links, etc. is that it's less free to play and more free to have fun. They usually give you alot of resources to start (either free card packs or premium currency or what have you) and like missions to get more premium currency at the start etc. so that if you do the research, you can look at what the best decks are, put all of that into getting one, then only using that deck to play ranked and save all your currency for any one future good/top tier deck that come out/if yours becomes obsolete. In that sense, they are F2P friendly because it's relatively easy to just build like a top tier deck and save all your currencies to build the next one when yours dies and the meta moves on. I know some people in duel links just make new accounts and take advantage of the gem overload you get when starting any time they want to play a deck from a new box whenever one comes out that has something they want to play while just saving gems on their main for the next meta deck or whatever.

Now when I say "free to have fun" I say that in the sense that as someone who spends little to no money, you will NOT be able to build all these different decks and play whatever you want. When I hear people say a card game is not F2P friendly, I see it as them wanting to play decks they find fun along with having the good decks too but they are kinda asking for basically being able to get every card for free and can't, so they say it's not F2P friendly when they are kinda asking for alot to be given to them for free.

So I guess it just kinda depends on what you goals are with the game, are you trying to use the best decks and climb the ladder? Then it's pretty doable as a free player as long as you don't mind what deck you are using since it's relatively easy to go all-in on the best deck when you start then just save your currency when your deck starts to become weak in the meta. If you want to play alot of different decks though then you will either have a tough time or must not mind possibly being stuck in the ranked ladder by going for alot of suboptimal decks for awhile while you get those and then finally start saving for a meta deck.

As for how that ties to teppen specifically, I'm not sure how much that applies to that game since I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but that's what I've seen for duel links and shadowverse since I play those two and that's how I started to see those games after playing them for awhile. I did see a streamer start teppen from a fresh account and make an almost complete meta deck with what they just started with and clapped the ladder though, so I'd think that game would be the same in the sense that you can just start off building a meta deck and once that's complete save your money for the next one or to just start building other decks you might find fun
