I admire both qualities, even if my own imperfections sometimes contradict that statement. Those two words could rule the world if people weren't so focused on ME and I. It's not that simple, though. We all have ingrained in us, 'self-preservation'. However, I think 'self-preservation' could be integrated into 'my neighbor and I', with a bit of relinguishing of the self. One person can be strong, but a group of people can be a force to be reckoned with.

It's a shame when a group rallies around hate and intolerance, when joining forces can bring so many benefits to all involved. Understanding and acceptance can give birth to perspective. Which many people reject. Perspective lends itself to questions, and questions can lead to chaos and upheaval.

Questions bring unassurance and the possibility of wrong-doing. Being wrong hurts the self. The ego/self subsists on being correct and righteous. Above all else, we have ourselves to fall back on, and if there is nothing but shaky ground beneath us, we relent to panic. Panic is uncomfortable and undesireable. It hurts, causes cracks, it damages our foundations.

Survival demands us to be strong, practical, and self-aware. Self-aware of our flaws so we can grow and overcome them. So we can see what has failed and what has given us perseverence.

Our greatest tools (reason and rationality) are far too often disgarded in place of pride and a need to be right. Far too often do we destroy each other and ourselves.

Reason and rationality are qualities everyone innately should be equipped with. Personal feelings and emotion are generally far more acted upon.

Many things would go better if it was reason and rationale, but "I don't like them" will win most of the time
