Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claims she has awakened frightened from sleep at 3:30 a.m. because she's worried about the negative effects of climate change on the world.

Ocasio-Cortez was livestreaming on Instagram Wednesday and answering questions from viewers, when she acknowledged having extreme angst over the state of the climate.

"Even while I was on vacation, I woke up in the middle of the night, at 3:30 in the morning, just concerned about climate change," she said.

The New York Democrat also said she struggles with balancing her work life, and claimed climate change might affect her ability to have a family.

"Im 29 years old. I really struggle sometimes with the idea of how to be a policymaker and potentially have a family in the time of climate change," she said. "And it really, like, freaks me out and it can be really, really scary."

Ocasio-Cortez also claimed the world is accelerating the process of climate change and said the prospect of living in the future fills her with fear.

"We are kind of blowing past a lot of the markers that scientists thought would happen years from now, and they're actually happening now. Our glaciers are melting, our sea levels are rising," she said.

"Im scared sometimes, too, about the world that Im going to be living in, that were all going to be living in. And I sometimes fear what were going to be living with when Im 40, 50, 60 years old."

Sounds like she is just trying to be dramatic so she gets her name in the news yet again. Has no one else figured this out yet? She is an attention whore. She was a nobody for most of her life but then once she got little fame from being elected, which should have just been a "hey good for you now let's move on" moment, she liked it so now she continues to say and do things to keep her name out there so people always pay attention to her. I don't think she wakes up literally shaking, but she probably does think about the terrible effects of climate change a lot. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that she even dreams about it, considering it's part of her daily discourse. Granted, we should take what politicians say, and how the media reports it, with a grain of salt.

This woman has no concept of history and what humans have overcome in our entire history. Even if you believe climate change is gonna impact us in this generation or the next, you should have an idea of what humans have overcome in the past. We can survive in Antarctica and Russian cold.

We will survive because were able to adapt.

Now some of us believe climate change couldnt possibly be exacerbated by human actions. The earth is so old. We dont have an entire history of what this planet does.

I mean, I wake up in a cold sweat plenty of nights thinking about tornadoes, even though I've never lived through one or even seen one.

We're pretty much staring down the barrel of another Dark Age with climate change. Seems like a reasonable thing to have nightmares about if your job keeps it on the forefront of your mind.

This is a really bad argument.

Going "It doesn't matter how badly we fuck things up because hopefully in the future someone else will fix it." is a fallacy as an argument. It just gives up responsibility and downplays harm people are doing.

You need something tangible in order to promote an argument like this, otherwise it's no different than saying "Smoking isn't harmful because someone will find a cure for the side effects" before dying of cancer.

Look up the Hockey Stick Curve.

While it's true that we don't have an entire history of the planet, we have more enough of a history than what we need for human purposes.

We know how the climate changes naturally and we know the effect man made pollution is causing

We know 1 in 6 deaths on Earth today are linked to pollution and we know that the damages we are doing will cause multipliers It's more complicated than I am making it sound but once we make the general temprature of Earth hotter, we will (among other things) release undersea gasses that heat the planet further.

The attitude of "Not all of Earth's history is known" and I presume your implication of "The Earth heats and cools in phases naturally" (correct me if you didn't intended that) which are both true, being used as evidence that man made climate change doesn't exist or at least isn't harmful to humans is utterly ludicrious.



And the past 4 years have continued the trend.

We in less than a century have brought on what would take many thousands or millions of years to occur naturally.

It's absurd and dangerous to ignore that or to go "Will someone else will fix it eventually right? Who cares?"

I have never heard anything about politics aging anyone except the President. The President ages about two years for every one year they serve because of h ing the weight of the world on their shoulders. There is no way in hell a freshman Congresswoman is aging because of politics. If she is prematurely aging its because of her genes. It sucks but it happens to some people. The guys on my mom's side of the family get random spots of premature whitening in our hair/beard for some reason. This has happened to one of my uncles and a few of my cousins as well as myself with most of us having it happen in our teens or 20s.
