I guess we'll never find out. If Trump supporters have proven anything is that they'll turn on him at the drop of a hat.

what are you even talking about? If they've proven anything, it's that they'll stick by him thru thick and thin.

My understanding is that the primaries are not something that is defined by our govt or our Constitution, it's just a thing that the parties themselves put together as a nomination process, so as far as I'm concerned they can do whatever they want.

They're enough of a threat to straight up cancel the primaries. That seems pretty drastic for people that already have no hope don't you think?

We'll never know for sure since the GOP won't let anyone go up against him.

Yeah it's like it's their decision but still the optics are bad and it'll be fun bashing them over the head with this for another year and a bit.

Possible, and hilarious, but doing so would cause them to no longer be members of the Republicans party ever again so they'd lose a bunch of clout and donor support and stuff. And most GOPers would not, because this would divide the vote between Trump and themselves, allowing for any easy sweep by the democrats.

Primaries cost a great deal of time and money. Since we know Trump would win them anyways, this sounds like a good way for the GOP to be fiscally responsible (which is of their core values) by eliminating some needless spending.

General elections cost a ton of money. I suppose we should have given hillary the presidency since trump's poll numbers didn't look good and we didn't think he stood a chance at winning

You can't compare primaries to a general election. The GOP is a political party which has no obligation to host primaries for new challengers. That's not even close to the same thing as cancelling a general election.

The right only seens united on the surface and the GOP knows it. All the need is one strong challanger and the right will fall apart. Yet I don't thonk that strong challanger exists.

These primary fucks aren't going to win, it's just a waste of money. Trump currently has a ~90% approval rating with the entire Republican party. The party isn't obligated to fund a primary process just because some Joe Fuckwit thinks he has a crack at some pity votes.

So Republicans now care about wasting money?

They've got a lot of money in the bank right now, but as mentioned in the article text, primaries cost money for the individual state branches of the party. If the state chooses not to host a primary process, it saves that branch money. In a situation where there's an incumbent president with 90%+ popularity with the party, there's really no pressing need to spend money on a formality like a primary.

I think you've got some things confused. Democrats love spending money on poorly-managed programs, funded by tax increases.

Republicans prefer to lower taxes and cut wasteful spending. That's like...a key difference between the parties.

And before you say "but military! but wall!"

Those are national security matters, not "Let's throw $100 million at a failed environmentalist proposal"

Bruh, Obama presided over the single largest ever increase in the national debt. Dude literally doubled it. The stimulus package shoveled millions and millions of dollars into various types of dumb bullshit. Every current candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination supports providing free healthcare to illegal aliens (at taxpayers' expense, of course).
