base game had 29 monsters. the free DLC adds them to 30-ish.

iceborne adds around the same amount of the base game + new map. so it have around 65 monsters. with the upcoming monsters DLC, including rajang, it will probably match, more or less the same number of monsters in MH4U (70 monsters)

comparisons:

MHFU - 58 large monsters
MH3U - 43 large monsters
MH4U - 70 large monsters
MHXX - 89 large monsters

i would be satisfied if it reach MHFU numbers, but they actually add more to match 4U i am so happy. granted, some of these are sub species, but still really cool nonetheless.

they have the new custom weapon system and they gonna extend the tree. it's a legit complaint compared to 4U which have varying amount of gear function and styles. (never played XX)

but i kinda forgive them because of everything is made from scratch unlike the handheld titles
