Holy fuck man there's like entire genres of Japanese comics dedicated to stupid costumes as a prerequisite for saving people.

Aside from my hero academia. I think japanese think of these "man in tights" as something that only fit in a gag manga. Just look at how toriyama make fun of iconic american like superman like suppaiman with mouth that looks like a butthole. Also in eoz where the z fighter mocking the appearanxe of captain chicken and dominatrix man.

One punch man is also pretty huge. And dont pretend as if Americans dont s*** on Japanese tropes either such as long transformation sequences, magical girls, spikey hair, transcoats, and giant eyeball

American comics are only bad by virtue of not having a consistent writer. You can get good runs, but if you look at a series as a whole it is a mess because it's never a single author's vision.

That's not a bad thing, shifting writers can bring new ideas, artstyles and storys into a series that never before were possible and that may have become stagnant or declined in quality and needs something new. Plus forcing an writer to slave away at a single series possibly for the rest of, or the vast majority of their careers while good for the overall story is not good for the writers themsevles, their talant and growth.

Forcing is a weird word to use. You could argue they are compelled by money, but certainly they can and do end series of their own accord. It's not like spin-off manga with new writers and artists aren't a thing in Japan, they just usually suck. Though sometimes amazing remake manga happen (Gundam: The Origin being a great example).

They certainly could just end popular series but there's no guarantee their next original project will capture similar success.. And you end up with writers who burn themsevles out and the series quality suffers becuase of it(bleach).

Or manga on hiatus for endless years due the authors totally legit 'illness' and cant even draw. So instead of just handing the artwork to someone else talented they allow the author to troll their fans for years on end.(D-gray man, hunter x hunter, berserk).

You can and artists often do hand the series for others to draw. You can even get extremes like Toriyama where all he does is send plot outlines and character designs for Dragon Ball Super.

I mean it's kind of a weird benchmark that's not representative of the majority mainstream.

Like saying American animation is better because of South Park.

No, I think there might be a misunderstanding. I'm in no way saying Berserk represents the entirety of manga. I despise most mainstream stuff. I've only read to completion/followed no more than 10 or so manga.

However when Im asked which do I prefer, I'm inclined to say manga because of Berserk. That single piece of work is something I enjoy more than anything to come from both mediums.

I'm not aware of any noteworthy series where a artist passed the touch of his work onto another writer similar to western comics aside from DB. Which it itself is something very recent. Naruto followed suit similarly, and no doubt one piece will do the same.

There are. Grounded is a little tricky. How about V for Vendetta? Watchmen is the best one in my opinion, but it's obviously about superheroes.

Damn, hopefully the manga is better than the anime in this regard. Imma read that shit.

I've been meaning to read Watchmen. I'll probably drop The Boys and start Watchmen instead. Wasn't big on V for Vendetta, but maybe the novel is better.
