Right now I work in the parts department at a Ford dealership, which is turning out to be a real dead end job. The position I'm applying for is at the corporate level rather than any individual dealership, so if it pans out I'd be on the IT crew for a dozen or so dealerships in the DC/MD/NoVA area.

This would be the foot in the door moment for me, I'm excited. If it doesn't pan out, at least now I'm motivated to make a change and I'll tweak my resume and float it around online.

He put in his two weeks, that's all I know. Maybe he got a better job.

So I talked to one of the IT guys today, and he said the dude had quit over a month ago and the spot had just been recently filled. BUT, he also said that they may be expanding the team because they have difficulty handling the workload with the current number of people working there, so he gave me an email address to send my resume to and said he'd let our sysadmin know to look out for it.

He also said that lack of certs isn't a problem, which is good because I don't have any lol

At least get your A+ if you're seriously gonna start looking at IT jobs.

It doesn't prove that you can do much, but it does prove that you're not completely unqualified to deal with computers.

Screw that, if I'm gonna pay money for certs I'll go for Network+ or a CCENT/CCNA since I prefer the networking side of it.

If you can jump to a cisco cert, go for it. Personally I think a microsoft cert would be more for entry level IT jobs unless you know you're going to be in an environment with that kind of core.

Iuno. Probably not great, but more than what I'm making now. I don't really care about that, I just want a starter job in the field.

What about Security+

I never needed much from it.

start talking to the managers for that position, get to know the big players in the IT dept of your company & express that you'd be eager to join them there, stuff like that.

that way when you drop a resume for a position you can get their attention, or they might even reach out to you if they're expanding.

also dont just stack certs, only get them if you know they'll be a benefit for the position (i.e. dont get networking certs if it's a database job, dont get Microsoft certs if your company is using Oracle products, etc), otherwise you're wasting time & money.
