We were at a place called Tianyi Square. It's a large outdoor shopping center. This woman, I would guess in her mid 20's, squat right in the middle of the area and took a shit right there. She was wearing a dress so didn't drop her pants. The fucked up part was she was so nonchalant about it. She just squat and took a shit while still looking at her phone. Then she simply stood up and walked away.

It was so surreal. I heard about that kind of stuff happening (usually old people or children) and even seen kids pissing pretty much everywhere but I never expected to see a 20 something year old girl doing it.

Seriously? But China is super modern now, right? I'd expect everyone to have basic hygiene down pat. On the subject of this topic specifically, I wonder if her social credit score dropped too. =P

Was this in some grass or something off the beaten path at least? Or just on the floor where people walk?

The tier 1/2 cities are super modern but the rest of the country not so much. It's usually people from more rural/poorer parts of the country that act like this. They believe in all the old age beliefs so they'll piss/shit anywhere because "it is bad to keep something inside you that wants to come out". Hear about people doing this on subways all the time in places like Shanghai.

Yea I've seen quite a few kids pissing and shitting everywhere. I've even seen parents/grandparents holding the kid over a garbage can so they could shit in it even though there was a bathroom maybe 50 meters away.

I remember when my wife came here and was so confused why so many toddlers wore pants with giant holes in the crotch area. She didn't believe me at first when I said it was so they could just piss and shit on the fly until she saw it for herself.
