The problem with loot boxes existing is that the games economy often gets screwed over to give an incentive to purchase loot boxes. You can play the game and get the thing you want, which will take 10s of hours or more, or you can pay $5 and have it now. They purposely give less rewards/increase prices so that it's much faster/easier to just use a credit card than to play that long. Also this is the My Team mode, which is a major part of the game, not some side mode.
