I live in Canada and pretty everytime someone use the last name, it's a company calling you by the phone. Even so, I had a few recruiters call me by my first name lately.

I see people in american series often calling their friend's parents by their last name. Is it still a thing in U.S.A?

I don't remember any single one of my friend doing this with my mother

I called one of my friend's mom "hot lips" after she drunkenly tried to reapply her lipstick and looked like a bad Angelina Jolie

I call some people uncle/auntie *first name*, while others are mr./mrs. *last name*. I think if Im more familiar with their kid Ill go with the uncle or auntie route.
