Until then, the series had a comic-book look and feel to its UI, a rocking soundtrack, and featured locales from the Marvel and Capcom universes.

And then, here comes MvC2, which features a generic UI with 90s-era WordArt and graphics, generic 3D locales, and a bizarre choice to use a jazz soundtrack (which I do like, but still).

They even removed the characters' post-victory quotes, but I guess they felt that adding them for every fighter in the game was rather daunting, considering that they were probably already rushing the game out.

Plus, rather than adapt a plotline from the comics like in the previous games, they went with a completely original story--as much as you could consider it one--with an original Big Bad, which all basically amounts to "This random guy wants to destroy the world. Team up with this random pirate woman and literally everyone else to stop him." There's really no other context to it, but I guess no one cares about that, since it was almost purely made for the hardcore fans of the series.

Still a fun game, but I'm glad MvC3 got things back on track in that regard.

Mvc2 is the best in the series, who cares if it was super broken. I'd buy it again and I've bought it on Dreamcast, ps2, xbox360. What a great game.

It's a great game but the music and stages makes no sense at all. Also there is barely any story and not much is known about the final boss.
