Yo,

How did you guys beat Emerald and Ruby weapon when you played FF7?

Did most of you KOTR/Mime spam or were there some actual creative/different ways to beat them?

Give some details.

For Ruby, go into the fight with two party members already dead so it doesnt use the quicksand attack. Then just use your best party member to win.

Emerald is is pretty much hitting it with all your best stuff.

This is very detailed and helpful lol. I know about what Ruby does at the start of battles and I know emerald is a shitlord but what I was looking for was some detailed strats.

yes, even back in 1998 that was dumb. I never even used aeris much even the first time I played the game. i bet those that invested in her and leveled her up were mad.

For Emerald I think all you really need (beyond the obvious "have all the broken damage dealing stuff") is to know to not equip too much materia so it can't one shot you. For Ruby...eh, it's been way too long for me to remember the details <_<

It's been a long time since I've played the game. I know I have materialess files with them dead (which is basically opening with limits, feeding hero drinks etc.) I also know I used a counter attack method (which involves stacking Counter-Attack + Mime on a character that has high damage and just watching them slash things up.) If your damage is not quite good enough to kill in a round you'll probably need a Final Attack + Pheonix on someone.

Lucky 7s work also with someone like Barret (who i think has the most hits out of any limit break on his Level 4). But I never liked trying to manipulate HP bars like that.

Next is Ruby. Gonna see if the same strat will work more or less with me tossing some Dazers at him to paralyze him first.

the main thing to note about emmy is his only really dangerous attack is the aire tam storm which deals damage based on the materia equipped - so you want to go in with only exactly the materia you need. for example whoever you decide is healing can probably go in with just enemy skill, maintain big guard and white wind and then drop your most powerful e.skills when health is ok.

ruby there honestly is only the one strat. i find ruby the easier one because the strat is foolproof but if you do try to deviate from that it gets hairy. i mean you can always sub kotr for a weaker summon but the thing is no other summon absorbs enough MP/HP with HP/MP absorb to repeat infinitely

note 16x counter materia is the strongest setup in this game but it does basically nothing against ruby and will just get you aire tam'd by emmy so nothing else approaches the power of kotr

Ruby just has absurd defense, so any strat has to use attacks that pierce (which KotR does), do a set amount of damage not based on attack stats (like ???? or Chocobuckle), or get so absurdly strong you'd be approaching overflow against anything else.

22 years later and I've still never beaten Emerald or Ruby

I still want to use dazer/omni spam. Dazer only to get myself into position to counter-mime omnislash but his high def might make that useless. Might try lucky 7777 spam followed by counter-mime.

I've done it dozens of times but i never remember how I beat ruby.

In my experience he always quicksands after you revive your team mates when you bring them in dead. I never understood why people say to do that, he still does it

you're not supposed to revive them lmao

As long as you wait for him to bury his claws (which he'll do immediately as long as you don't Sneak Attack a revival on your team) and don't kill the claws, he won't ever quicksand. That's why countering on Ruby isn't the best of plans unless you want to truly solo.

It's also why the only (afaik) NMNI strat on him is not really viable to do without save state abuse.

i doubt it. he's not much of an endgamer - i don't think he ever beat penance or uhh whatever the hard boss in the US version of ffx was either

I mean iirc NA doesn't really have a boss on the same level as penance. I guess there is nemesis but I'm not even sure if people really considering him hard.

I ended up beating Ruby last night with 7777 counter-mime strat.

Set up for 7777. Got into battle, used dazer/potion to paralyze and hit 7777.

after all that i hit him with another dazer then did omnislash.

After that he put his tentacles back in the ground and the MP drain one slapped me which set off all my counter mime and i lucky 7 omnislashed him into oblivion.

I beat Omega once just so I could say I did it, but FFVIII makes it extremely easy to cheese that battle.

I also beat Ozma, but as far as superbosses go, that's about it.

yeah i guess that's the superboss in X NA, he's tougher than most dark aeons i'd say so i think it's fair to put beating him as an achievement

What is considered the hardest superboss in any JRPG?

i remember at the time some talk of the superbosses in Star Ocean 3 being pretty ridiculous but I'm sure there's much worse than that
