I missed out on the era of LAN parties and basically multiplayer in general with the first 3D shooters. The only one I really had experience with was Goldeneye with my neighbor when I was a kid.

I just watched some online footage of Half Life and Quake. Those looked fun as hell. I'd love to play an active online multiplayer FPS! Any recommendations?

The original Doom/Doom II still has active multiplayer through its source ports. They've even modded in ways to play CTF and other modes besides just deathmatch.

It's a bit more primitive than Quake or Half Life or UT99 unless you're playing a heavily modded mode though.

Nice. I've also played old school DOOM multiplayer with my ex roommate/current neighbor. We didn't play until 2017, though.

I did some research online and decided to go with Quake II. Never played a quake game, but apparently this was THE multiplayer FPS game back in the day, at the same time I was playing Goldeneye with my neighbor.

I want to experience that.

HA! 1v1 or small Quake II matches are really fun! A guy and I were doing rails only in small arena maps and it was a blast. I outperformed him for more almost the whole match even though I'm a n00b. He caught back up to me at the end, though.

I'm also about to Try Unreal Tournament.
