As in, would it be financially risky with only a 6 month guarantee of employment?

I'm just about finishing up a 6 month gig and found out they want to extend me another 6 months. Rent for a small apartment would be about 1/3 of my income, and I'll also have about $20k saved up before starting.

I REALLY wanna get out of my moms house, but I probably wont have the option to move back if it doesn't pan out

Milk it and save up more until you get a solid income coming in and buy a house

I'd like to yeah but honestly I'm a lot happier living on my own (like I did in college). She enforces weird rules and ots always really loud there

the cheapest condos/duplexes I've seen around here would be at least $60k for a downpayment, I dont even live in a particularly high cost of living area

I dunno, probably try talking to her about it if she is the semi-reasonable type.

Also, what do you think your odds of permanent employment are after the internship?

I would just explain your situation to your boss and ask how serious they are about hiring people after internships, assuming that's the goal. But you better be leaps and bounds above the other interns. Don't take a risk unless you're the type of person to kick ass at work.

who, my mom? I probably will... I know shes even lending my brother money for a condo lol

Well, I know they want to hire me/are impressed with my work, but theres literally no positions open right now. I guess them extending the internship shows they really want me. If a position opened up in the next 6 months I'd definitely have an edge over other applicants

yeah that sounds like good advice. I know they tend to like hiring interns, and are impressed with me, but theres a hiring freeze going on right now or something.

It's pretty risky to move out when a job isn't guaranteed. Just wait. 20k doesn't go that far once you have 0 income.

You're talking about rent bieng about 1/3rd of the income from your internship right?

You should have ideally one year worth of living expenses so rent, food, utilities, money for whatever hobbies to keep yourself sane saved up since most people can get a job in undera year.

Ask them about extending it/hiring you right out and if they give you a new contract or extend it to sign it, move out.
