I've played through Deer and 40 percent of the way through Lions. I imagine the major differences are in the second half, but so far I can say that Deer was a bit more lighthearted; BL is a bit weightier in the early game, tone-wise.

Edelgard honestly feels like the most prominent lord of the 3. That being said, you should probably go with the roster (and lord) you like best

This. Go with whatever house has the most amount of characters you like, then recruit ones you like from other houses.

If you plan to play through every storyline then you should probably do Golden Deer or Black Eagles first. Blue Lions second.

Personally, Im going

Black Eagles > Golden Deer (because of similarity of maps to the final route) > Blue Lions > Church

I really wish they could fix the stupid f'n AI in these games. Is it really that hard to make your Green Units not 100% suicide on an enemy? I may not know much about AI programing, but that seems like a pretty simple thing to do.

Blue Lions is pretty based though. Dimitri is one interesting ass character.
