I dont get the point of these polls. The election is over a year away and these are never that accurate.

Something is wrong then as his approval rate is 100%. 162% doesn't sound right.

AP polls all adults instead of registered voters so they are polling people who literally can't vote.

They're not even considered on 538 aggregation.

Do not trust the results of this poll.

I have a question. how do we say approval rating when

The poll surveyed 1,058 adults from Aug. 15 to 19. There is a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points

I mean its 1000 people out of a whole country?

Could be, but I actually dont think so. There are reports of Trump supporters leaning toward Yang or Bernie.

Political polling is a type of public opinion polling. When done right, public opinion polling is an accurate social science with strict rules about sample size, random selection of participants and margins of error. However, even the best public opinion poll is only a snapshot of public opinion at the particular moment in time, not an eternal truth [source: Zukin]. If you poll public opinion on nuclear energy right after a nuclear disaster, it's going to be much lower than the day before the disaster. The same is true for political polls. Voter opinion shifts dramatically from week to week, even day to day, as candidates battle it out on the campaign field.

Political polling wasn't always so scientific. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, journalists would conduct informal straw polls of average citizens to gauge public opinion on politicians and upcoming elections [source: Crossen]. A newspaperman traveling on a train might ask the same question to everyone sitting in his car, tally the results and publish them as fact in the next day's paper.

Yeah but were talking about public opinion of the president, not who will win the election. He won the election but has never won the support of the majority of Americans.

Statistics. Give a population of x, a randomly selected sample of Y doesn't have to be that big to be accurate within a reasonable margin of error.

That's fine, I'm not a trump supporter, or really even a democratic supporter I'd ideally vote for a 3rd option if there was a meaningful one.

Trumps popularity will probably rise once the Democrats pick an actual Nominee to formally run. Trump will pick them apart on social media and the debates will probably be pretty ruthless. People enjoy a show more than actual political discussion.

Given that the only thing Trump has done is increase the size of government and continued the failed policies of Bush and Obama when he promised during the campaign trail that he would be different, it really shouldn't be surprising.

When a president has a very low approval rating, it's because the economy is bad. The same reason Americans voted for Trump in the first place, because the majority of Americans despised Obama and he was a liar. Okay America got hoodwinked, and we just found out that Trump is a snake-oil salesman, but Hillary probably wouldn't have been better.

I think its just the nature of the presidency.

Gallup, which has conducted presidential approval polls since 1937, shows that President Trump has maintained one of the lowest job approval ratings average of any president at 39 percent.
