1. Pretty much give up the modern way of life. Impossible. That is our pandora's box. Back to early industrial era. Electrocity only for the most basic needs, buy local food. No more imported food, entertainment, et cetera for the most part. People are advised to grow their own food when they can. This kind of extreme is pretty much impossible. Because that is the same as willingly collapse everything we have built the last 2 centuries. And that probably won't help much either.

2. Develop miraculous technology that will somehow solve our problem. Probably our best bet without total, extreme societal overhaul.

Say, the top 3 corporations probably contribute to world's carbon emission more than every single individual human beings on earth combined. It is partly of the packets of our modern way of life. Cheap electronics, all season vegetables and fruits imported from accross the globe, cheap gasoline, etc.

Even at the extreme, toppling these corporations, changing our way of life, and like if a worldwide revolution happened, whatever governing bodies that take up the position are either aren't equipped, aren't knowledgeable, or simply repeating the same cycle all over again because of human nature.

The only conclusion of how to act nowadays is basically this:

Just give up. Enjoy your life, spend times with your loved ones, be more liberal in how you spend money. I don't think my generation will enjoy retirement at age 65. Buy what you want, what you can and save for medium term.

I don't even feel motivated to work anymore or doing serious plan for the long future, because i probably won't even have a future. Why invest, save money for retirement when in 2070 all your money will be worth less than a patch of dirt to grow your potato.

Don't have kids. They will likely living their prime on a hell on earth, while we at least can enjoy life up to our mid life.

Lastly, pray to whatever deity you believe you will die before everything go to hell. If you dont believe in any, just hope you will die peacefully before that.

Yup, that one by OHCHR. I watched a video, then skimmed parts of the report.

Just an educated guess of our history and how hard it is to get people to agree on one thing, over an invisible enemy. It is impossible.

Fatalism is the most infuriating response. We can absolutely take steps to reduce the carbon emissions of our energy production, and it wouldn't require a return to pre-industrial standards of living to do so.

Remember that while 2 degrees of warming will be pretty terrible for life on earth, 3 degrees would be significantly worse than that.

Thats why enjoy while current supply last. If i am going to starve next year, at least i am full now.

There is no future anymore. The only generation that cam enjoy peaceful retirement are probably x'er.

We millenials are fucked out of our retirement. Gen Z will get fucked out of their mid life, and gosh babies now will probably the last one with decent childhood and they will experience alot more fuckery in the prime of their lifes.

I live in indonesia. Like 60% of my country are water. My city will be likely be submerged in 2050. As it is now, it is the fastest sinking city in the world. I can work my ass off to move to better country, but by then everyone will have the same thought, and mass migration in this scale is a sure disaster with how everything is organized.

My country suffered for decades, and only in the last 10 years we actually see actual progress, but seeing how things are currently it wont last long.

I wish i can have more optimism, but i keep reading, about the problems, and potential solution. It is impossible. Smarter people than me tried, and failed. People with better education, better wealth, knowledge, have been trying for people to act upon this threat for decades that always fall on deaf ears.

Collapse is inevitable. I have thought about it over and over. There are "best case scenario" that in my mind, is still a collapse of some sort.

My thoughts about best case scenario:

Everyone get their shit together. Corporations stopped their aggressive expansions, majority of human being willing to give up their modern comfort. Major casualties are avoided. But it basically forces human being to regress back 200 years. Or so. Alot of industry are shut down, people are forced into farming like it or not. Most likely economic value we know today will also collapse. We survive, but one way or another earth's civilization still collapsed and will take centuries to recover.

Worst case scenario:

Collapse the "hard" way. Food become extremely scarce, people hunt each other to survive, the rich survive longer, but in the end their money will be useless, wars are fought. Human casualties and destruction enroach the planet, most species going extinct. If it is around 3 degrees global temperature increase, some pockets of survivor will exist, like maybe 1% of humanity that adapted, and go back to small, hunting gathering life. Hopefully with enough time, they can rebuild humanity. 5 to 6 degrees increase would be total extinction. Our corpses will be probably dug by future species where they hopefully figure out what happened to us, and prevent it themselves.

Hell when i think more about it, even the first scenario is worse than it sounds. It's not like making a livin out of the lands all that bad, but with the number of humans, it is still not sustainable.

First problem, is availability of workable land. People who dont live in area where land are fertile are fucked. Mass immigration would likely result in bloody conflict. Post industry agriculture era will be different than pre industrial age. Simply by how many humans there are now, which most are supported by industrial farming and global trade network.

Industrial farming and global trade network ARE top contributor of the planet's carbon emission, but people will literally die without them. We can optimize, by having everyone go vegan, so to utilize all the available land to plant things we can directly consume, but my uneducated guess it also comes with plethora of problems we can't even foreseen.

In the end, the atlantis myth is a near prophecy as it is, but more ironically, there is no angry gods drowning our own civilization, just confused people who dont even realize they doomed themselves.

This is false information. We have seen the warming and cooling patterns that happened in the past and they were noticeably different. When the earth warmed or cooled naturally in the past, it was only part of the planet that experienced that warming or cooling. The ice age that everyone likes to mention affected only parts of the world at different times. Now, 98 percent of the world is warming, all at the same time. You are parroting fossil fuel funded propaganda, even if you don't realize it.

It's not that there is "literally nothing" we can do, but more that we are not willing to do what needs to be done. I mean, how you gonna convince people to stop fucking and having kids, for example? Maybe you would be willing to make that sacrifice, but other people in other countries won't. You gonna somehow convince them to also not use fossil fuel, when they know they need it to not only live their lives but to also keep their economies running?

Good luck trying, I guess.

There's still so much we can do about climate change. We can literally do carbon capture, and go nuclear, but Americans are too much of pussies to go nuclear and carbon capture is too expensive. There's no reason to believe that there's nothing we can do when theres still plenty.

Also, I'm not saying that climate change is natural, but america was literally halfway underwater years ago and the world has gone through constant changes over its lifespan. Who is to say that we aren't in the middle of a natural phenomena of the world changing again?
