Looking for top tier animation, sound, and story.

Like Cowboy Bebop or Avatar: The Last Airbender / Legend of Korra. Nothing too long because I like to see things start to finish. Actually prefer movies. Like Princess Mononoke or Afro Samurai.

your lie in april (netflix) - music based melodrama, excellent soundtrack, sad

in this corner of the world (netflix) - ww2 era anime movie w/ great art direction and music imo - very well done and realistic tone for an animation imo

mahou shoujo madoka magica (netflix) - magical grills with a dark twist, v good pacing/characterization

that's all i can think of rn. no idea what's on hulu. violet evergarden has it's moments but overall not really a 10/10. if you were looking for action shows idk. fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is pretty good if you somehow haven't seen it.

oh yeah fate/zero is a really good darker action series with a lot of interesting characters in a death battle for a magic cup. devilman crybaby is pretty rad as well in terms of edgy shows, but it has a cartoonish animation style that not everyone can get behind.

Violet Evergarden, Fate/Zero, Madoka Magica, Kill la Kill, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Gurren Lagann, Death Note, Aggretsuko (comedy, dark in more of an existential way), One Punch Man (not dark at all actually). This is based on a list I looked at for US Netflix anime just now, so if you're not in the US, sorry.

Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, also the original FMA up to a point.

FMA is superior for the early half. It spends more time in each location developing the world and motivations and more grounded character interactions. But once it diverts from the manga, the story falls flat.

FMAB is superior as a whole package. The first 1/4 (I think?) is mostly the same story as the first half of FMA but sped up with less breathing room. The rest of the story from that point forward is far superior to the rest of FMA.

I'll disagree. The story gets a little goofy in place, but it's still good. And a lot less shonen than Brotherhood.

I used to watch Full Metal Alchemist, but never finished. Should I re-watch that or skip to Brotherhood?

Anyone recommend the manga

Thats fair, I certainly enjoyed it my first time through, and obviously I think it does a much better job stylistically. Rewatching though, I just couldnt get behind a lot of the choices, like I just dislike the feral Wrath kid situation, chimera Tucker, and wasting Greed so soon was massive wasted potential. Not sure how I feel about the altered Homunculus origin, its a fine idea but I think I prefer where Brotherhood went with it still.

I recommend both tbh.As manmouse said, the first series takes more time on the early episodes whereas Brotherhood speeds through it. For reference, the point the two mostly diverge happens in episode 25 of the first series while Brotherhood gets there in just ten.

The manga's mostly the same as Brotherhood.

Violet Evergarden on Netflix.

Not really an action one, but it's a short and sweet experience.
I barely watch anime, but I would recommend it to anyone.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

First season isn't done yet, but you can watch 20 eps so far on Hulu.
