discolor is pretty cool, ostinato like this is crazy and I love it (see the next match too oops!) and the instrumentation clash between the "sad wind instruments and choir" stuff that happens is really cool. But overall it's not really that memorable to me, just cool to listen to in the moment. And to contrast that with the absolutely infectious Sky Tower, I have to go with the latter in this case. 0:18~0:23 is another example of the kind of "crazy scaley stuff" that i DIE FOR eat it up like its fucking cnady oh speaking of cra

zy scaley stuff RUDE BIUSTER WHAT THHE FUCKCKKKKKKKK THIS SOng is not real actually! It can't exist. "Susie Used HolyDragSwd on Me with a Full White Field" is actually the name of an IOSYS song probably but it is also what is happening to me in this match. This is seriously a Top 20 song versus a Top 80 song to me i hate it but there is a clear preference. That's kind of funny these are both 9.7+ material for me and they are absolutely nothing alike oops (unless there actually is something i dont know about because how to music theory by ear)

Faith is My Pillar is one of the EO4/5 songs that I really like a lot!! It's not my favorite from EO4 but it's got that good drive that makes the good EO songs really good, it's just missing a little bit of Pizza Z. GR Challenge Cup suffers from the same problems as well, though. So in the end, this match is almost dead even lol. Gonna give the edge to GR Challenge Cup here today, but this might've gone differently another day.

discolor is a neat track that evokes pleasant umineko memories, but not one of my favourites. first time hearing the kirby track but its super catchy and fun.

the second match is tough because they're both fantastic and also, yes, literally complete opposites. i haven't finished deltarune (i'm a chronic procrastinator) so this was my first time listening to the track outside the game and i realized "whoa, this is actually a masterpiece". and yet i still have to give a slight edge to PIbD because i'm a sucker for beautiful emotional melodramatic music.

First time hearing that last set but unlike Mycro I love this style of boss fight music so I'll take it even though it doesn't sound super unique

Wow Umineko music can actually be good!!! Not that I've disliked others, but they do tend to bore me after the first minute.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru - discolor: 9.5. A song that makes you feel like you're drowning in an endless waterfall without a bottom, and you can't swim upstream so you just try not to swallow too much water and you hope the ground comes soon and breaks your neck. Very powerful song.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land - Sky Tower: 5.5. Modern Kirby, which isn't really my thing. It's fine I guess. Kind of catchy.

Deltarune - Rude Buster: 9. One of my favorite Deltarune songs. This is a song for punching life in the teeth. So fun.

Chrono Cross - People Imprisoned by Destiny: 1.5. When I can't wait for a song to be over, then I know it's not doing to score highly.

Etrian Odyssey IV - Battlefield - Faith Is My Pillar: 3.5. Loud guitars and strings no thanks. I like the Etrian Odyssey songs that are FM synth-based much more than these (though I do love Battlefield - Storm so hey, not a hopeless cause). Ooh but I do like the part before the loop, when the melody changes up; that bumps it up a few points.

Pokemon Card GB2 - GR Challenge Cup: 3. The instrumentation in this game sounds like a Commodore 64 doing a Donald Duck impression. Some of these songs are virtually unlistenable to me as a result. This one is okay I guess, salvaged by a decent melody.

I think Rude Buster and Sky Tower are the only ones in the whole lot that made me feel any real emotion WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU like Human Fall Flat and today's CC thing made me realize that in most cases SADSONG.wav is very not something I enjoy listening to.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land - Sky Tower
"Sky Tower" packs a ton of personality into a little song. Kirby OSTs have a very charming sound to them and this song is a great example of that. It's fun and was even MORE fun to drive a car to (a common theme for me is vgm car times, so yeah that's a thing). ALSO a very funny thing happened on this particular drive with this particular song. I put the windows down because there was a nice breeze and when this song was on, this lady gave me the most disturbed look from her car... it was so hard not to laugh. I guess she doesn't like vgm.

Deltarune - Rude Buster
Deltarune's OST takes all of the things I already liked about the Undertale OST and somehow multiplies them by 1178% and makes them even MORE likeable somehow. Like, if I listen to this song and then listen to like "Bergentrckung" or something I already REALLY like I'm floored at how much Toby Fox has improved his music over the several years between games. "Rude Buster" is a great example of this-- it has the same energy as "Stronger Monsters" from the Undertale OST, yet it somehow does _MORE! It's short, but it makes up for its smallness by being fleshed out and energetic. I tried counting this song out and believe it's in 4/4 (still learning music theory over here, oops) and if I was correct then holy heck, this song does a lot with common time. It isn't repetitive and it's a trip to jam out to-- glad to give this track my vote. "People Imprisoned by Destiny" just kinda made me sad. It isn't exactly the kind of thing I would actively listen to again-- I am more of a fan of crazy/fast/proggy/mathy music so that song wasn't really for me.

I wasn't a big fan of the Etrian Odyssey IV song, so Pokemon has my vote yet again! "GR Challenge Cup" is a simple song, but it does a lot with what it's got. It was a cute, chiptuney song and it was great for what it was. Not my favorite Pokemon track, but it left a bit more of an impression on me than EOIV.

MATCH 1

discolor is great! I love the atmosphere that this song carries. The somber piano with all the different harmonic layers to it is just so good. I strongly prefer this song to its counterpart, dead angle, although the latter is really good as well.

Hey it's that motif in the beginning of Sky Tower! The one in P-R-O-G-R-A-M from Kirby Planet Robobot. I've always liked that little motif and I think it's really nice here as well. I wouldn't say that I'm usually the biggest fan of Kirby music--although I definitely don't dislike it on average--but I really like the super happy Kirby songs like this one. discolor is way too good, though, so unfortunately I'll have to vote against Sky Tower, but Sky Tower's a very nice song.

MATCH 2

Can you believe that I've never actually played Deltarune despite it being free and the fact that I did enjoy Undertale? Well I did check out some of the music and Rude Buster is probably one of my favorite songs from the game. It has a nice high energy to it and the melody's pretty neat.

People Imprisoned by Destiny is really pretty! Very somber and the melody is quite nice. The beginning of this song almost reminds me of Dark Souls 1 music. I could picture it being fitting for somewhere like Firelink Shrine.

MATCH 3

I love battle themes like this from the Etrian Odyssey series! Really great melody going on with the strings and guitar as well as the trumpet. Particularly those two longer notes at 0:02 with the trumpet specifically. It really adds on to the high energy of this song.

Nice happy melody with GR Challenge Cup, but it's not all that special. Don't really like the buildup to it at all. This match is a no-brainer.

Dis Color , This song is heavily sad moody w/ piano, doesn't bode well for me. But I like the bits of the atmosphere that feel surreal like the quirky bubbles or the reversish audio. Gee this song feels really repetitive without doing Too much. Sky Tower has a decently fun peppy energy and definitely sounds like a Kirby Song. It's short but sweet.

Rude Buster is such a good Deltarune song. Definitely one of my favorite two songs from the game (whither it's #1 or #2 can depend on my mood probably). I feel like there's a word for the energy this battle theme exudes but it's not coming to mind at the moment. But it's good stuff ok. It's up against a super slow, sad moody symphonic piece. For a second I thought the song was gonna switch it up and have energy but the cymbals just have a lot of hype behind them for some reason any way this match is very easy for me. Something positive about People Imprisoned, I like the first 13 seconds. Even though that's essentially 5 notes drawn out for a while, 2 of which are duplicates. It sets an interesting melancholy mysterious feel. And Then the High Strings come in.

Faith is a Piller has decent, "motivational" upbeat energy which I can somewhat enjoy through the orchestral instrumentation. I do really like the flowing synths in the background of the calmer, Electric Guitar Focus part. GR Challenge Cup is a game boy color track which is a type of "chip tune" I'm , probably more receptive to than others? (NES < Commodore < GameBoy probably) I mean obviously it depends on what you do with it but this can help. Anyway this is cool, it's certainly got that "working through a Challenge" feel to it, a positive challenge, and really these two songs together I find this much nicer to listen to than the orchestral piece, especially in that I want to keep listening to this while I just felt "required" to listen to Faith Pillar. In the intro I really like the first 4 seconds especially the first key change to something lower but then the key changes again to some thing I don't really care for much I guess. On the other end of the song, I really like the loop point. It seems neat that it starts out acting like it's going to repeat one of the sections but instead it simply leads in to repeating the whole thing
