Houston is still a city

Original quote was about expensive cities, and it wasn't meant to be malicious. I generally wanted to know, and the answer I got was "other places are shitholes." Not true at all, and frankly, very elitist.

A 15 minute commute would leave you still inside most cities.

It's even worse than the guy asking why people don't just move to the other end of the country for cheaper rent.

I dunno, but I'm guessing it's probably less than smack dab downtown.

Njtransit takes like 45 minutes to get to Penn station from where I am and average rent is like $2k. I also live in one of the cheaper towns in the county.

And Penn Station is probably another half hour from where you work, right?

20 is pretty conservative. 25% is ideal, but 30-35ish is acceptable.

If you live somewhere where the average rent is 2.5k a month and you make less than 100k before taxes it's probably time to move

It's just liberal logic. They choose to live in one of the most expensive cities in the world, then complain that it's expensive.

Quick google search says the average income in Toronto is about 83k and the average 1 br apartment rents for $1,300 a month.

I dont know much about Canadian taxes but I'm gonna assume that's around 60k a year after taxes and 15.6k a year on rent, which is about 25%

Also this is advice for people who are making a decent income and need to know how to manage it. As in you shouldnt be making 100k a year and be spending 3k+ a month on housing.

If you make a below average income for where you live the only thing you should be focused on is fixing that

Lets all just move where it is cheaper. Full proof. I bet the rent stays cheap once everybody moves there too!

It's not going to just all of a sudden going to be full city price in cheap areas. It's a balancing act. One side slowly goes up, and the other goes down. They're not going to just both go up due to this population flow. (It will still go up due to natural house appreciation and inflation obviously though).

Also, there's just too many people who crave crowds. I still can never wrap my head around why people love places that are packed with people.

But likewise I cant wrap my head around being isolated all the time.

Its just preference.
