Any movie prior to like 1961 suffers from terrible pacing and shitty cinematography. Almost every scene is like sitting in a doctor's office for 30 minutes and then two people in the room decide to have a really loud and exaggerated conversation.

Never was a fan of movies that were highly praised because the critics who praised them went on to make film classes where they could teach newer generations how to stroke their ego.

It's better than today's movies where everyone talks clearly, no one talks over each other and everyone waits until the other person is finished talking. In real life people talk over each other.

People rag on b movies for having horrible acting, but they are actually very accurate to how people act in real life.

Naw, they fucked it up in many ways. Like adding women. Adding women wouldn't be bad if studios could help themselves from cramming sexual tension into a movie that doesn't need it. They need to start making movies where you can have men, women & no sexual tension. Now that would be progressive lol

"The Thing" from 1982 with Kurt Russell seems to be considered the best one. It's my favorite.

"The Thing" from 2011 with Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a prequel to the 1982 film. I enjoyed it.

"The Thing From Another World" from 1951 wasn't bad compared to other movies from that time. I wouldn't watch it again though.

I think the best order to watch them in is:

1951
2011
1982

Spoilers (?)

2011 ends where 1982 begins.

Watched the 50s one. It was pretty good. Some parts were a bit silly. They were walking around outside in -60 with just a light jacket and they left a bunch of sled dogs outside at night.

And the way people argued back then was kind of comical. General conversations from that time are charming though

Monster wasn't too compelling.

The 2010s remake is terrible

It isn't a remake, it's a prequel. Even if just for Easter eggs like the two headed monster and the axe in the wall, it's a worthy watch if you like the original. Not as good, obviously, but few movies are.

No, it's really not worth a watch. The CGI is cringy, the plot sucks and it has none of the claustrophobic and paranoid feel of the '82 version.

I agree that most movies before the 60's were made more like stage plays but there are still a ton of great movies from the time and completely discounting decades of film is just silly.

It's funny how the 2011 one had practical effects (at least for a major part) before replacing them with CGI versions which looked a lot worse (as in fake) in comparison to the animatronics. Just like in X-Men Origins: Wolverine...

Nine times out of ten, practical effects will look better than CGI. It's just fact that the eye and the brain can "feel" when something isn't real. Practical effects can circumvent that feeling.
