I don't understand how life can just.... start, if there weren't already living things here before.

If I remember correctly, the idea of how life started being thrown around right now is that RNA floating around on Earth very early in its history gave rise to DNA through chemical reactions, eventually becoming single celled life

Basically, yeah life just kind of "started" from organic compounds

That's an extremely watered down version since I'm no chemistry or biology major, but it's something along those lines

If this were so, wouldn't we be able to emulate this in a controlled environment?

Ok but consider this: then who or what created the advanced species that planted us here?

I know. This definitely occurred to me as I was typing this, and many times when I contemplated it in the past.

no one knows how it started and there's only speculation. the thing is though, just because you don't have the answer to something doesn't mean you should invent something that's just has hard to explain (and with no evidence for)

I'm familiar with this. I'm an atheist, if you're trying to hint otherwise.

nah it doesn't have to something supernatural. even the alien hypothesis is just as hard to explain cause all you do is move the goalpost to the aliens and how they started existing

there's some ideas on how life originally started but nothing that would constitute an actual theory

The MillerUrey experiment shows that putative conditions on the primitive Earth favoured chemical reactions that synthesized more complex organic compounds from simpler inorganic precursors.
And it is proved that asteroids contains the building blocks of life, so we could have been the result of a seeding from space.

All something like this implies is that aliens somehow came to life in the first place.

If they did it, we could too. However, the distance between even single stars are immense. The likelihood that they found this planet and populated it is far less than if we just did it ourselves.

Hyper advanced artificial intelligence. We are terraforming the planet for them.
