Played Beat Saber at a friend's house and now my wife wants us to buy a PSVR for that and other games.

From what I can find on GameStop, does the VR not come with the controllers or the camera? Everything seems a la carte. I figured with the damn thing costing like $300 it would all be included.

I was about to ask this same question on the PS4 boards.

A PS4 and the VR headset should do it

Don't I need the motion controllers for stuff like beat saber though? And the camera?

I bought the doom psvr bundle when they had that sale for 199.99 this past november, it came with everything needed to get VR going (this includes the playstation camera). This bundle did not come with the ps move wand though.

You have to get the pricier bundles if you want the move controller, like this one:

That one includes that beat saber game. From the little bit I read, you technically only need one move controller for that beat saber game, but everyone strongly recommends two because you apparently will miss out on a huge chunk of that game without two move controllers.

VR is dumb without Move controllers imo. If the game doesn't support Move it doesn't interest me.

I paid like 350$ for everything before tax. But that was over a year ago

Some PSVR bundles include the camera and "wands".
One bundle also includes beat saber, look into which one has the whole package.

So this and a PS4 is all you should need.

I believe it's been down to $250 just FYI if that matters to you.

There are two types of psvr bundles, and both usually come with two games.

One is just the headset and the camera. The two games that come with will only need a normal controller. Back when I was shopping around for a headset, this bundle came with Moss and Astrobot.

The other bundle comes with the headset the camera, and two move controllers. It will have two games that need those controllers. I got this bundle for 200 during black Friday, and it came with Creed, and Superhot. I think the current one someone posted comes with Beat saber.

If you have to spend 300 to get the bundle with the moves, I highly suggest looking at the Oculus Quest instead, which starts at 400 dollars for the 64gb model

. It is a standalone headset that doesn't need a playstation or PC to run. It works way better than the PSVR. With the psvr you have to always be facing the camera, and the tracking for the move controllers isn't the greatest. It is easy to move out of range of the camera if you put your arms in the air or towards the ground.

The Quest has four cameras on the headset itself that track the controllers way better. Plus it is completely wireless so you can turn around and walk around without getting tangled. The PSVR you can only move about a couple feet in any direction before you lose tracking, so it is almost entirely for either sitting down or standing up.

The quest has really good roomscale support. When you start it up, it let's you use your controller to paint out a play area in whatever room you are in, noting where any walls or obtrusive objects are, and it makes a virtual wire frame wall that appears when you get too close.

It is actually a really big step up from the PSVR in terms of how it feels to play, being able to turn around and walk around wherever you want instead of being forced to face one direction and start in place.

But the PSVR has some advantages too. The main one is the game selection is better because it had been out longer. Astrobot is really fun and it is a PSVR exclusive, it's a 3d platformer where you watch the little robot guy go around and you jump and all that fun stuff. Like 25 levels plus 25 bonus mini game style levels you can unlock from each level.

Plus the PSVR has Skyrim VR, and Borderlands, and No Mans Sky. So the big triple a games are on the PSVR, and PC vr like the vive or normal Oculus Rift. The Quest can play games from your PC if you have a strong enough one though too.

But where the Quest is really good is smaller games like Beatsaber. In PSVR you only get the songs that they give you, which is all EDM, and is good enough if you really like that kind of music. But on the Quest you can sideload in custom tracks made by the community of almost any song you want instead of being restricted.

So if you are really interested in triple A games like Borderlands, and you only have very small spaces to play in the PSVR might be the better option. But if you want to play any songs you want, with a much more immersive experience than the Quest is hands down better. The only thing worse is the Quest is a little bit heavier in the front. In both headsets you can watch movies in a virtual theater or other cool environments. Right now for the PSVR the environments only are in the Hulu app, and for Quest it is the opposite, they have good Netflix app, an Amazon app, and you can stream content from your PC if you have any downloaded movies.

Also if you have a Ps4 pro, then the graphics will be better for PSVR. I have a normal one and Skyrim only looks okay and not quite amazing.

I've had the PSVR since Black Friday last year, and just got my Quest a couple days ago, but I've definitely enjoyed the Quest more consistently.

You definitely need the move controllers and camera for Beatsaber. You need the camera for everything, and a lot of games need the Moves.

Really? Have your tried Astro Bot or Moss? Those two are really fun and have great feels to them. I only played the demo for Moss, but I have the physical disc for Astro Bot and is probably my favorite VR game.

Maybe Space Pirate Trainer I like more, but Astro Bot has so much more content, so you can play it way longer.

They aren't puzzle games really Astro Bot is pure platformer. And moss is like a platformer adventure game with puzzle elements.

wow this describes it perfectly.

move controllers seem like two cheap pieces of plastic and because of scarcity(what with them being created for ps3 and all) the prices are jacked up where i am. literally $45~ for a single and bundled for a bit less.

f that s.

if you really want VR i suggest going all in on PC VR or even get the oculus quest standalone instead of getting ripped off with PSVR which doesn't even feature decent movie playback.
