After like 6 heart pieces you don't really need any.

This always confused me that you need to be near the last 15% of the game to get them all.

At least in BOTW you need a certain amount of health to get the master sword. Also some enemies can hit really hard without defense boosts so it's actually beneficial to raise health.

The strongest, non weakness attack in TP is 3 hearts. Everything else barely did half a heart

Alttp and BotW are the only games to reasonably have 12+ hearts

Okay but have you considered this: I suck really bad at the game and need the extra health because I am unable to suck less

Tried Hero Mode on some games? No collectible hearts so maybe that'll be more of a challenge for you.

The containers are pretty helpful in the original LoZ. The second quest is honestly a little tough for me if I don't collect them, especially because they gate off the better swords.

You're right though-- anything after aLttP, I can't feel a difference at all.

the second quest is utterly ridiculous at times. I really do wonder how people beat it back in the 80s and without a Nintendo Power. There's some real cryptic crap going on there.

Wind Waker is the worst about this.

OoT, WW, and TP all got bosses (and even a handful of regular enemies) that can do a couple hearts damage, so theres that. For some titles it does get a little ridiculous though.

Wind Waker's Hero Mode can be tough through the first dungeon. 3 heart containers, almost no way to heal. After that, you can start carrying potions so it's fine. It's no Dark Souls, but as 3D Zelda goes, it's surprisingly difficult lol.

I need to replay Wind Waker because I really don't remember bosses doing multiple hearts of damage. Pretty much everything inflicted one heart.

I collect them all because they're there to collect, and have some neat hiding places. That being said, they can actually be detrimental in games where you have the vital/critical beam, or that damage bonus on low health effect.

I like to avoid the Heart Containers but collect all the Heart Pieces. That way I can have my cake and eat it too.

Didn't that fat bokoblin general in TP do more damage than Ganondorf, atleast with one of his attacks? I feel like that was a thing.

It's kinda a shame Ganondorf couldn't have been a bit harder in the older 3D games, because presentation wise all his battles were great. Wish the gameplay part could have better matched that.

It was. One hit does 3 hearts, but by that time you should have 6 hearts + more from piece collecting. Also that swing takes him almost 10 seconds to swing

I remember being super pleased to find them all in link's awakening as a kid because one in particular was extremely difficult to find and it took me a very long time. When I found it, I was like "holy fuck lol"
