Luckily it's in a mirrored ZFS pool so all the data is intact, I just need to swap it out for another drive. It's an older 500GB drive, and I have a spare 1TB I can throw in on the meantime that will work just as well except with 50% capacity loss. My drives are getting old, so I'm getting twitchy and need to start preparing for more failures

I'm more concerned about the single 8TB WD Red that's in there. It's the newest of the bunch, but if it goes, there's no mirror or backup right now to preserve anything that's on it... that'd be a true disaster

SSDs are worse. They just instantly brick without warning. At least with a mechanical one it usually starts acting funny or makes noises first.
